The last of the real drivers SUV's?
While one can argue the styling or creature comforts of this SUV, there is no denying the performance of it. Yes, there are faster ones out there now, if all you care about is 0-60 or a few tenth on the stopwatch. People care about different things, so everyone has to make their own judgement. To me, I care about handling, feedback, fun and how the car feels and it's here where this one scores a hundred on my personal scale. Prodigious power and torque, rear wheel biased, hydraulic steering with feedback like a go-kart. Stab the throttle in the middle of a tight turn and it steps out, but is very easily controlled and you always know exactly what's going on. Sooooo much fun! I can travel 700 miles in a day at a good clip without being sore when you get out, check! Loads of storage and towing capacity, check.
I have driven the newer ones and I can't stand where the car industry has gone. Distracting, huge screens making everything more complicated, numb steering and brakes, gadgets I don't need and black shiny surfaces everywhere that will show every fingerprint and blind you when the sun hit's it at the right angle.
My only problem with this SUV? I have no idea what I will get to replace it when the time comes. At 107k miles, it doesn't use any oil yet, so I hope this will last me a few more years. If I find a low mileage one somewhere, I will snatch it up. That's about the highest compliment I can give.
Bought it at 24k, never left me stranded.
