Overall good work truck
The 2003 Silverado 2500HD has been a great upgrade to our farm. Though purchased used, the vehicle was a fair condition with only a few blemishes and mechanical items needing attention. The instrument cluster lighting was the first issue addressed and was thankfully something I was able to fix myself by repairing poor factory wiring installation/connections. The second major issue experienced with 6.0L engine was an intermittent loping when started cold and allowing to sit at idle for more than 30 seconds. Though still not fully resolved, the most reliable workaround is to rev and hold the idle around 1,500 rpm for 20-30 seconds when starting cold, and that seems to make the truck run fine from then on. The only other persistent annoyance is a flashing check engine light at sustained highway speeds over 70 mph. I've had the dealer reprogram and replace the power control module (PCM), completed full tune-up with OEM plugs, wires, filters and coil packs to no avail. Aside from the annoyance of the light, no other mechanical or performance issues result and so it just becomes something to ignore. Body wise, the truck is solid and strong but does have several rust spots on the frame and lower portions of the fenders and doors. All in all, great power for hauling and generally meets all my needs.
