Great for the long haul
I'm 72, my wife is 69. Our grandkids live 6 hours to the east and 12 hours to the west. That's a long way in a compact or a pickup (our alternatives), so we were on the lookout for a used Highlander. When this 2014 hybrid turned up with low mileage, we swapped the pickup. We've had several long trips over the six months we've owned it, and the difference in how we feel at the end of the ride is remarkable. The quiet and comfort are noteworthy, and the hybrid is delivering 27-28 mpg at 65-75 mph on the interstates. I miss the functionality of having a pickup, but the tradeoff of comfort over the long haul has more than made up for it. This car came loaded with all the available electronics and I must say that -- for all their convenience -- they can also be a distraction. Overall, it's well suited to the purpose for which we bought it. We have yet to drive it on snowy roads, but with AWD we expecting to be OK.
