High cost and pushy maintenance service practices
This service was about a month ago. They were supposed to send me a survey, but none ever showed up, so here I am. I took my 2018 Santa Fe for an oil change, filter, inspection and tire rotation at about 40,000 miles. I follow the service recommendations for my vehicles as close as I can. I just moved to Champaign from the Chicago area and this was my first visit here in a long time.
It started right after I entered the door. The adviser, probably according to her position requirements (no fault to her), took my request and then wanted me to add extra services without ever looking at the vehicle. She wanted me to do services required at higher mileages and some that weren’t even needed without seeing a problem. Understand that this is how they make money, but not how they should care for unknowing people.
So I declined all the useless needed work and was back to my original list.
I also understand that dealers are more expensive than smaller shops. I was prepared for their higher cost but not this not needed extra work.

Actually the best part of this is the price. You can see a lot of small shop’s advertising for under $40 to get what I wanted done, but I thought to get a dealership inspection would be good. Well, the price wasn’t worth it. My bill for basic services was about $120.00. And they gave me $5 off since I had a coupon! My last Hyundai dealership maintenance in the Chicago area was half of that or less.
I have no problem with the work done, the time it took, all those things were great. The technicians did great or my score would have been lower.
When I tell people what I paid for the basic oil change and tire rotation, they laugh at me. I expected about half that amount. I guess that is my problem, as they say. This is my third Hyundai vehicle and now I have to find a new place for maintenance services. A future bigger problem for me is what do I buy next, do I have to go farther for a responsible Hyundai dealer.
