Compton's Automotive Inc
As the owner of Comptons Automotive I would like to address this review personally. When the vehicle was towed into us, we were asked to check for no power steering and oil leak. Upon starting the vehicle we could determine right away that there was a major problem with the power steering pump due to for one no power steering and second a extremely loud power steering noise. We first added fluid to system and almost instantly we could see fluid shooting out of one of the lines, it was necessary to clean all the fluid off and determine where all the fluid was coming from. What we found was power steering line was not installed properly and brackets that hold it in place were not bolted down, and fluid was leaking from line, at this point we believe that the line and pump should be replaced for the reason of not knowing what damage was done to the pump (due to being ran dry) or line, we want to know that we will make a safe repair. Once the power steering issue was confirmed we then looked for oil leak and this is where it gets interesting, we find a motor mount that was not even bolted down, it was hitting against the frame and damaged the mount studs, we find that the passenger side cv axle center bearing was not bolted to the engine block, we then see control arm bushings totally destroyed, enough to allow the wheel to be able to be moved back and forth, we also noticed that at some point the front brakes had been ran to metal to metal and damaged the rotor but only new pads were put on and causing damage to new pads, at this point we figured we would look at the rear brakes and they were almost worn completely down, and the car had 2 front worn tires that were bald on the inside. For the sake of this reply I will stop on other items that were found. The tech himself called the customer indicating what we have seen and customers reply was that she had vehicle at several shops and no one could fix it and she was tired of shops throwing parts at it, we invited her to the shop and that we would go over everything we see so that she could make an educated decision on repairing the vehicle, she declined, we asked several other times and each time she declined. When a vehicle is in this bad of shape, we like to help educate the customer. At this point she asked for a estimate, the estimate..not repair bill was given to her to get this car back to being safe to drive again, we also indicated to her that if any of the repairs were done that we would take the charge off, she declined any repairs and had vehicle towed out. We know what we saw on this vehicle, we are not in business to throw parts at vehicles, we are here to inform the customer on what we see.
