I just had a new BMW windshield put in my 2001 BMW Z8. Great story here:
Due to an internal fluid leak line showing in the middle of the rearview mirror I had bought a new BMW rear view mirror wholesale from South Atlanta BMW ($550.) I decided rather than risk a screw-up I went to (first time ever), Fred Sonsini Imports on Germantown Pike at the entrance to the Blue Route across from the Plymouth Meeting Mall. Figuring 10 minutes and $20-25 bucks to switch it out.
Just by bad luck the experienced mechanic was twisting it off the attachment stem on the windshield, using just one hand and no big force when the windshield cracked as the mirror came off (as I was standing there). Without any fuss at all he said "I will need to get you a windshield" and referred to calling one of the companies like Safelite.
I appreciated his immediate willingness and responsibility but said it would need to be a BMW replacement due to maintaining the value of this high value limited production Z8 BMW. He immediately went to the phone and ordered a replacement from Thompson BMW (2 weeks shipping from Germany and $1080. wholesale). He did not even call Fred, his boss.
I was amazed and now have seen Fred Sonsini's reputation for integrity on the internet He works on BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc.. Later, I spoke with Fred (78 year old gentleman) and thanked him and told him I appreciated his integrity and 'he thanked me' for saying so. I told him I needed to bring him my business and have one of my Mercedes SUVs in with the next to follow. I am more than pleased and impressed.
