First of all, I'm not sure why she would be in Hobart, OK going from NM to MI.. she should've followed I-40 up to I-30 and picked up I-55 or I-57 went to chicago and then picked up I-94 and went to michigan that way.
Number 2. We personally have done work with Jesse in Hobart. His Hobart location has been closed for about 2-3 years as he has moved fully up to Elk City, OK. I could not see him charging $700 unless your 55 yr old friend lied to you trying to cause drama and a bad review.
Replacement of a thermostat should NOT have cost more than $100 with parts and labor. MAYBE $150 at the very most. Not sure why he would've done a diagnostic on it unless your friend agreed to it after knowing the price of it.
