I brought in my 3 year old G80 to have seat switch replaced that fell off while the car is still under warranty. Was told by the service manager that this appeared to be caused by abuse, so I would have to pay $611 to have it repaired. When I explained that the seat switch just fell off and any damage to the bracket was caused by there not being a cover to protect it, I was informed that the switch could only come off by using a tool to pry off. Basically a ludicrous and insulting suggestion that I intentionally vandalized my car.
I appealed this warranty claim to Genesis Customer Service, and was told that they couldn't help me since the dealer claimed that it was done through "outside influence". I'm truly shocked that
Genesis will not stand behind its products and workmanship. I'm basically through dealing with Key Hyundai Genesis, and will look for another dealer for service while I still own the vehicle. Other than this issue, I was very satisfied with the dealership staff from sales to service. I could only imagine how Key Genesis would advocate for me for anything that wouldn't be covered by warranty.
I've had similar issues with both Mercedes and Ford vehicles, and was never questioned. These repairs were promptly taken care of without any accusations. It is clear to me that Mercedes and Ford both stand behind their products while Genesis clearly does not. Am in the market for a replacement vehicle, and I have ruled out anything manufactured by Genesis, Hyundai or Kia.
To add further insult, I was sent a 10% off coupon to have the work done at my expense. For $550, I will leave the seat switch cover off as a reminder of this lack of customer service.
