Amazing to drive but do your research if you intend to buy one
There are no cars for the money that are better drives than the RX8.
As a platform they're incredible to build if you're planning to autocross or do fun drives.
Very comfortable for road trips. Fuel mileage is awful. No two ways around that.
But if you can swallow that pill the rotary is a very characterful engine and a thrill to drive and throw in to corners.
It's a momentum car and will reward smooth steering inputs. Great feedback. Brakes are top tier.
If you can afford a second gen model they are the way to go. All the reliability issues from the 2004-2008 models were addressed with the second generation.
