I brought my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado to Carolina Auto Service in February for a lifter issue and ultimately spent over $7,600 on repairs. During the process, I was advised by management to proceed with an AFM/DOD delete as part of the repair strategy. Based on that recommendation, I approved and paid an additional $1,890 for the parts and labor associated with the AFM/DOD delete.
Unfortunately, the original lifter issue was never resolved. The truck continued to experience serious drivability problems, including rough running, stalling, and ultimately becoming inoperable. The vehicle had to be returned multiple times and towed on more than one occasion.
What is most frustrating is that the additional expense of the AFM/DOD delete provided no benefit in my case. After spending thousands of dollars on repairs and following the recommendations provided by management, I ultimately had to seek help elsewhere and was later advised that the engine required replacement.
The financial impact extended beyond the original repair bill and included towing costs, additional diagnostic expenses, lost time, and four months without a vehicle. In addition, features that worked prior to the repairs, including Apple CarPlay functionality, no longer function properly. I also discovered issues such as an empty windshield washer reservoir and a broken washer fluid cap that were not present when the truck was originally dropped off. I didn't get my truck back in working order until June!
While the staff was courteous, I am extremely disappointed with the outcome and the handling of this repair. After four months of repeated repairs, significant expense, and repeated assurances that the truck was fixed, I was left with a vehicle that was not repaired and ultimately required a replacement engine.
Carolina Auto Service eventually provided a replacement engine and did not charge for labor for the installation. However, after being quoted and agreeing to a specific price, additional charges were then added to the final invoice. That experience further contributed to my frustration and loss of confidence in the business.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Carolina Auto Service for major engine repairs.
