The short version, is that Honda told me I needed a new transmission, but Robert’s Landmark fixed and towed my car for $125.
I was driving my car when the check engine light came on. The speedometer went to 0 and got stuck there. The car wouldn't go past 2nd gear, which apparently means it put itself into limp mode so that nothing else gets damaged.
I made the mistake of going to the Honda dealership first (Honda Carland). I knew they were expensive, but I thought they would at least be able to diagnose the issue correctly. They called me up later and said "It's got like 10 codes going off, you're gonna need a new transmission”. I forget the exact quote, but it was at least $4,000. My car is a 2010 Honda Civic with under 80,000 miles.I did a little research, and everything I read told me to go to a place that specializes in transmissions. I luckily found Robert's Landmark Transmission repair because of their positive reviews.
I call them, speak to Michelle, and she tells me they can get it towed to them so that they can have a look at it. My car arrives there in the evening, and they tell me they'll look at it first thing in the morning. Michelle called me the next morning and says that the speed sensor should be the first thing I should get replaced, and that it may be the all that's needed. I tell her to go ahead, and a couple hours later I get the best call of my life. She told me that my car was ready, and that it would cost $125, including the tow.
It actually cost me less for them to tow and fix it than it did for Honda tell me I needed a new transmission.
These are genuinely good, honest people, and Michelle couldn’t have been happier to give me the great news.
