Not very impressed!

I decided to move to EV in 2022 from gas vehicles. I have a Tesla booked and waiting for delivery. I picked up this IONIC5 because it was available. The vehicle is nice but, the features and functionalities available are poor in comparison to Tesla. IONIC5 is over hyped - that's my take.

Dealership Markup

Very good vehicle but it is very expensive due to Msrp and top of that i had to paid Dealership Markup as well. Very poor dealership customer service. They charge over MSRP even i paid deposit on car month prior to come in dealership stock.

Charging issues

Overall a good vehicle in terms of style, comfort, sound and drivability when at optimum functionality. There is an ongoing battery issue and the amount of miles gained once charged to 100% is far below the estimated 305 suggested by dealership. This car only give about 220 to 250 miles per 100% charge. Keep in mind most of the charging is done to 80% to preserve battery but only done to 100% for proposed longer trips. This issued has been delayed for more than one month to be fixed by dealerships because of limited available appointments. This is a brand “new car” and its already having charging problems. In addition, actual mileage on dash and mileage on Bluelink is about 2000 difference and I have not gotten a plausible answer only sent a very tedious update link which I have not been able to complete because of time. Also, in order to update software you have to have a flash drive and reset the head, pretty crazy when your iPhone updates once connected and this car is connected through Bluelink. There has been many excuses and still waiting for issues to be dealt with on Sept 8, let’s see what happens. This could by updated accordingly.

Great vehicle experienced one off issue

Loved the vehicle. I personally had an issue which I initially thought was the v12 battery. Several warning lights showed up on my car randomly one day and none of the functions worked. The windows wouldn’t roll down, the ac didn’t work, all the sensors were not functioning. Etc….

Not enough range for travel

The car looks cool, drives nice. Traveling any distance is a nightmare however, having to stop at every charger to charge gets really annoying. When automakers figure out a way to increase the range and/or let you turn the AC on and still have decent range they will be worth considering again.

No wireless CarPlay

Built in nav is terrible. Apple Maps from CarPlay is way better. Not sure why Hyundai even waste resources building the navigation software. Everyone should be using Apple Maps or Google maps instead. Speakers are also terrible.

Ending of this story is still TBD

Be aware of what you are choosing to purchase, go in with both eyes open. The charging network is not quite ready to truly enjoy this vehicle the way it was intended. It’s a fun car to drive, but know there are some issues Hyundai is clearly working thru to make this the best car it could be.

Very Vanilla

The car does some things great and something poorly so it all kinds of washes out. Making it a very neutral experience. With less than 4000 miles I'm already hesitant to believe this car will make it over 100k miles without falling apart.

car feels like is going to flip turning at 40 mph

I have very mix emotion on this car. looks nice pros : great color love interior cons: 1.big heavly ugly wheel cant lift to change cause its soo big and bulky. 2. headlight although look nice at night you cant see anything 3. car feels like is going to flip turning at 40 mph 4. driver assit keeps telling you put your hands on wheel 5. hood space bad

Issues

Need rear wiper, roof rails, better battery life. Preconditioning hard to use. Missing EA chargers and many map problems. Didn't receive my mug. Ground clearance a problem as I hit curbs so really in the parking times when 45 degree parking

Ionic 5 problems

Need to fix charging have to restart charging 5 to 6 times to get a full charge. Told us we would get 400 miles only get 248. Would not recommend due to charging problem and no one at dealer can help or tell us why

Good but could be much better if hyundai was committed to EV

Hyundai does not take EV’s seriously-all of the EV’s and surveys still have references to ICE cars, and critical systems can’t be updated OTA. Performance in cold weather is terrible. Highway range is poor.

Car is great with a flaw

The Ioniq 5 is a great car, looks great and an amazing option as electric vehicle. But it has a big flaw, it wont charge as advertised during cold weather because is not equipped with a battery pre conditioning heater. So if you are running low battery during cold weather be prepared to spend hours in a "fast DC charger" and days if charging from home. Apparently the new ioniq 2023 are equipped with the pre conditioning heater but those who bought the 2022, we are screwed.

Design great/Backend & firmware needs work.

I had more cons that outweighed the pros. Sold car before the year was up. Vehicle never registered properly with bluelink app since it kepts syncing up with a different vehicle one state over. I think there was a VIN mix-up. Vehicle also had a dead 12V battery 4 times before the one year anniversary was there. Seat comfort was below par after sitting for more than an hour. Positives were design, software UI/UX of the infotainment and 800V architecture with the DC charging. Charger port needs to be redesigned though. KISS. Vehicle was also spacious.

Good Car, Awful Dealer

The Ioniq is a good EV with better range than many. The omission of a rear window wiper/washer, and the fact that its automatic cruise control can't take rain or snow are the main disappointments. As many have said about its automatic lane keeping, it doesn't center the car in the lane, but hugs the right stripe, which reduces its usefulness.

Great car until it died because of a 12V battery and electical system issue.

Loved the car, loved the featues, loved the drive, loved the speed.... then it died, in an epic way with no warning in the middle of nowhere. And LORD is it not easy to find anybody who can service an EV. Even the dealerships don't know what they can do. Towed from one dealership to another to wait weeks for repairs. Confidence in the car going forward.... 3/10. I guess I'll drive it down the street to the grocery store and back, but no more roadtrips far from home.

Fine car, poor company

The ioniq 5 is prolific and well priced. If nothing goes wrong with the car you will be very happy. If youre an unlucky driver and they made a mistake on your car, good luck getting them to make it right. They seem to only be interested in making promises to get your hopes up then to never keep them until your morale breaks and you give up.

Not enough mileage on a charge

Sadly I bought 4 vehicles at the russelwestbrook dealership because their service dept needs a total overhaul. I’m not at all comfortable bringing my vehicle there l! Very poor to worse I’ve ever dealt with

Ok

The car overall is great. Comfy quick, and good in small spaces. Audio system could be alot better along with providing wireless carplay. The rear trunk matt that sticks to the back seat is horrible it keeps peeling off, the charge port has issues opening if trying to press the door to open. If not the only way to open it is with the key fob.

Poor purchase experience and now it is in the shop for a month

In general, I love the Ioniq 5. But the ICCU failed and it has been there for about a month. Dealership charged $10k OVER MSRP, unlike Ford. I like driving the car. I love the acceleration and electric is the only kind of car I will ever purchase again.
