Nice car but my climate control doesn't work and can't be fixed for months.

The car looks great and for the most part I like it. However after just 5 days, the climate stopped working and I was told that it could not be fixed because the parts are on months long backorder. With temperatures averaging in the mid to high 90s, I cannot drive the car during the day. It's just not safe as internal temperatures are sometimes over 100 degrees (!).

I wish it didn't break immediately, but otherwise awesome.

Things I love: the car is smooth. the car is quiet. the acceleration is amazing. it looks very cool. its large, like surprisingly large. The tech features seem awesome, but I can’t fully say until I've been able to use it as much of it doesn't work. the cup holders are far superior to Mercedes-Benz. the magnet spot, I thought that was super stupid at first, but I love it. not functional not needed, but a nice touch. another nice touch is the metal endcaps on the stalks. the pixel motif is very cool, though perhaps even a bit too subdued. I like the steering wheel shape/design including the quality of the buttons. those are frequent touch points and they aren’t at risk of fade. well done. though I really do wish I could change the button so that moving up a track meant pushing the button up. its counter intuitive. Things I'd like to see in the future: static display brightness. auto dimming is not something I like, but I can not disable it. the tune and channel select button I would love to be able to invert the controls. right now down is up and up is down. the star button....I’d love to see the options open up more on that. they are a bit restrictive. please stop using USB-A ports. I assume you had a ton of them laying around but it makes no sense otherwise to use USB-A when everything is now USB-C especially in a 'future' car. more customization of the display would be great, perhaps wallpaper uploads of .jpeg or something over the USB data port. Things that are not so positive: the rear seatbelts bang against the doors all the time. I know you know about this because there is an extra bit of fabric to help this, and it does help. but, the guide for the seatbelt is not sufficiently to keep the belt from twisting when exiting the rear. I have kids, this is 100% of the time they are in the car the belt twists upon retraction as a result of the force of the retraction and the weight of the buckle. I can already tell the front grill vent is going to be a challenge in the winter. I can see that being a problem and I’m able to avoid snow travel for the most part, time will tell. ergonomics: I am 69" tall and 170lbs. absolutely everything is a nightmare to reach. the infotainment, the center glove box (the concealed box in the arm rest) the seat controls, basically everything. I understand that ergos are very subjective to the individual, just do with that what you will. the lumbar support does not maintain position. I haven’t told the dealer yet because I’d really like them to focus on my AVN. my sales rep was amazing his name is Don Fischer. He was amazing. he went above and beyond. the service manager and I, are off to a rough start. I hope that he does right by me. if he doesn’t, I’ll let you know. the AVN issue is of the utmost concern. my GPS doesn’t function. HDA errors out. GPS is a very important feature to me. it’s a long story, I told the service manager, he should understand my frustration about this. its literally essential to me. the HDA function not working is very very sad. this is one of the key features I was excited about. I do a lot of highway driving and now I don’t have it after having it just a short while. there is a bit of creaking from the driver side a-pillar. seems to be related to body roll. do I really really need the little cap on the DC ports? can I just put a bit of no-ox in there and remove that annoying dangly junk? that was clearly an after-thought. Right now, I'm still generally undecided about my decision. this host of issues so very early in one of the most expensive offerings from the company, a flagship vehicle that when asked by peers I have to give an almost embarrassing disclaimer. it is what it is.

Way over priced

The new 2022 ioniq 5 I purchased from Danbury Hyundai in CT was a total nightmare and I will tell you that from experience that this vehicle is way over priced. So I can not give you a honest review of my purchase. It has been over a month of waiting for Hyundai to call me back regarding my vehicle purchase.

Dealers pull this vehicle down

Hyundai dealers have been worst and I have owned many cars. This is a case study in why direct to consumer model may succeed. Best part of car is it's charging speed. Just amazing. However, build quality is sub par and driving dynamics are atrocious. Car is extremely unsettled on rough pavement and suspension bottoms out when you hit dips in roads. Too many squeaks and rattles in a brand new car. My Prius with 357k is more comfortable, more composed, never bottoms out on same dips and quieter with barely any rattles/squeaks (in EV mode. Ioniq5 is a good car BUT not what everyone makes it out to be as one of the best. Hyundai has work to do to take this car to a much higher level. Underlying tech (EV drivetrain/charging is one of the best). If they can fix other issues, this car is definitely capable of being one of the best out there.

Fantastic vehicle, really fun and comfortable to drive and plenty of room @ near 7ft tall. Traction battery failed completely @ 1,400 miles on the odo.

Fantastic vehicle, really fun to drive and plenty of room @ near 7ft tall. Traction battery failed completely @ 1,400 miles on the odo. Interior technology is very nice, SE speakers leave something to be desired. AWD and extended battery offers tremendous punch @ ~4.5s 0-60. That is, until the BEV light comes on and you need to wait 2 months for an approved replacement traction battery while driving an ICE rental.

Poor quality

Poor quality, definitely not worth the price, the parts feel loose, cracky, and squeaky. USB stopped working after 2 months. Feels like it’s cheaply made. Hyundai service is super poor and hard to book.

Please have corporate office contact me - my brand new Ioniq5 has been in the shop for over 2 months.

Please read below for cons. I just want someone to step up from corporate and do the right thing. I purchase this car with my hard earned money and for it to be at the dealers for this long is criminal. Please step in and do the right thing by exchanging the car out today!

First year and already have issue

Had the vehicle for one year exactly and lost power due to 12 volt. Took 4 hours for Hyundai to pick it up. Waiting over a week to get it fixed due to parts and I have no transportation. Dealer had no loaners.

Loved the car but too many serious problems for us

We paid a lot for the car but were excited to own and E vehicle. When the weather got cold the 12 volt battery failed and caused a serious instrument software glitch. This has been reported to Hyundai. As months wore in the car made increasing noise and tailgate sounds. This was initially diminished by the service manager as may be just "rattling change" in the cupholder. Online forums I found many owners with the same issues - battery failures and noise. I took it to the dealer and they said Hyundai had a fix for the tailgate noise involving installing washers on the side gate latch bumpers. They said the problem was fixed. I drove it home. Same creaking and squeaking I have detailed in my survey. I could have taken it back for another try but confidence in the car at this point is too low. Sold it last week.

Does not charge at 48 amps, that is a lie.

The car is a nice car. Hyundai are terrible. I would not recommend a hyundai unless you are paid to take it. Terrible ownership experience. You will regret it. Even if they did not mark it up 10k at the dealership it is still not worth the ownership experience.

A few hits, many misses on ioniq5

Multiple issues encountered. A dozen visits to the dealer in the first year. Usb assembly needed replacement. No rear windshield wipers results in terrible visibility during rain. Seat belts rattle and bang against side of vehicle while driving. No OTA updates, requires external hard drive and clunky process. Scheduled charging is inconsistent, which resulted in an uncharged vehicle on the morning of a roadtrip. Tap to lock/unlock doors works inconsistently. Cheap trim finish, carpet panels on the back seat fell off due to glue becoming ineffective in the heat. Cool looking car, fun to drive an EV, but hyundai is trying to punch above their weight class and failing.

Horrible After Sales Service

I paid 10% more than retail price to buy junk. Rattling Trunk, cheap plastic stuff inside, till date non functioning USB data port, flimsy front windshield, no rear windshield wiper.. they sold saying aerodynamic design does not need rear wiper.. all that glitters is not gold

a perfect car in almost every way but that doesn't compensate for a dangerous design flaw

Extremely pleased with every aspect of this vehicle EXCEPT a visablity issue. The issue is such that I would not recommend the vehicle and am very concerned driving. The angle of the back window is such that dust accumulates on it continuously. When it rains, it is actually impossible to see out the back thru the rearview mirror or by turning around. This is an extremely dangerous condition. I am afraid to drive in any rain, particularly at night.

2022 Not Ready for Release…

The car lacks a battery heater which means that 2WD’s take VERY LONG to charge in winter. The Index to the Owner’s Manual is not well done at all. The actual manual is very large, but the index is too condensed. Many topics are mysteriously omitted. They obviously didn’t hire a technical editor, relying on internal engineers for the index. Does it work? Yes… Is it worth the price? No….

Buyer beware of Ioniq 5 false advertising

Car is great, everything I wanted, but Hyundai advertising 6.5hrs at home charge but unable to find/provide cable for such. Limited trim comes with 110V charger that takes 54hrs to charge 10% - 100% at home. Completely useless for everyday driving, and false advertising from Hyundai company!

Range was a Lie

I purchased this vehicle largely for the range of the EV Battery. I’ve never been able to drive the car further than 250 miles despite the advertised range of 300+. Buy the Mustang Mach E. Customer service response has been insulting this far. I am so disappointed.

Vehicle was delivered with a defective AC system

The vehicle has been decent so far. Unfortunately it was delivered with a defective AC system which impacts a significant amount of different items in terms of both safety and comfort. If I was scoring the vehicle just based upon the drive system and efficiency of the electric systems it would easily be a 5/5 as so far I have been very impressed with the vehicle in terms of driving functionality. But unfortunately having windows that do not defog efficiently and almost getting heatstroke driving through a very hot area significantly deter me from in good conscious giving this vehicle a good rating. This seems to additionally be a significantly COMMON PROBLEM with the vehicle as I have found roughly 30+ other Ioniq 5 owners with similar AC issues which leads me to believe that there is a significant defect in the design of the systems.

300 mile charge rating.

After 3 weeks I was down to 220 on a charge. I did as the Service Manager requested but it still did not help. I returned to Service and was told there is nothing wrong with the car, so why can't I get 300 miles on a charge? Now I am left with no car to get to and from work.
