Never stopped at a gas station again...

And lived happily ever after. The Ioniq 5 is everything you expect from EV offerings this year, but is missing a couple items you might have come to expect from any vehicle: a rear windshield wiper and auto setting for the wipers. Otherwise this is an amazing vehicle to own and fun to drive. The acceleration in the 4WD is like jumping to hyperspace. The interior is as quiet and comfortable as much more expensive cars. The outside styling is a matter of taste, but does attract attention so take that as you like. -Very Happy Customer

Great styling, middling efficiency, fast chargers. Mixed opinions on build quality. Biggest con - dealing with Hyundai dealerships/service departments.

2023 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD Review after ~11k miles and 12 months: Likes: Styling, seat comfort, fast charging Dislikes: Subtle vibrations at highway speeds, lack of true OTA, average efficiency Biggest Dislike: Hyundai service departments and still needing to take an EV to them when they have no idea what to do with them. Over 11k miles, I've averaged 3.7 mi/kwh, city range is good 260-300 miles, highway range at 70-75 mph is at best 220-230 in summer, 190-200 in winter (down to ~ 10% , always need to leave a buffer when highway driving because you never know what situation the charger will be in) The car is very comfortable to sit in and drive in general, suspension performance is good but it does have noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) issues at highway speeds - initially I was having the entire car and steering shake because I think the tires develop flat spots in transit, that went away after about 1k miles but even now the passenger seat, the center console with vibrate at highway speeds. This vibration brings about all sorts of subtle rattles - the door panels rattle because the plastic vibrates against the metal door - I had to take off all door panels and put felt tape to resolve, the rubber mat in the center console vibrates and creates a noise. It's all fairly subtle but audible because there's no engine noise. The cabin in general is not as well isolated as you would expect on ~50k car (not in comparison to other BMW we got for similar MSRP) The car lacks true OTAs as in still needed to take to dealer for VCU updates, the infotainment allegedly gets OTA but very delayed, faster to manually update - they have made good changes with software updates such as route planning. Overall it's a good car, perhaps not the quality you would expect from the price but absolute worst part of ownership is having to deal with Hyundai service centers - my experience has been they have been rude, uninformed of EVs, left the car in a dirty state and non responsive to customer complaints. Will likely avoid HMA car in the future because of that.

Love the EV

This Hyundai Ioniq 5 has surpassed all my expectations so far. I get lots of compliments on the styling. I love the performance of the motor. I have had it on the interstate as well as local roads and it handles perfectly. I am very happy with my decision to purchase this EV.

Great EV, good value.

IONIC 5 is fast, comfortable and quiet. Fun to drive with lots of great safety features! Hyundai has done a great job with this first generation IONIC 5 (2023). I like the SEL, Limited was not available when I purchased.

2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL

I've had my eye on the Ioniq 5 ever since driving one at the 2021 Minneapolis Auto Show where I was sincerely impressed by the performance and driving quality. I've been looking to make a substantial cut in my fossil fuel use and when looking for a car to supplement our 2013 Honda Accord I evaluated the Ioniq 5, Mustang Mach E, and RAV-4 Prime. For me, the combination of driving quality, value, utility, and availability put the Ioniq 5 on top and we took delivery of ou4 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD in early September after a great experience with Buerkle Hyundai. Have about 2000 miles on so far with excellent results, primarily charging from a Level 2 charger in our garage, and with our first Minnesota winter yet to come. It's a fun car to drive, quiet, responsive, and fossil-fuel guilt free. Looking forward to a long and satisfying relationship!

Good introduction to an EV

As the first EV of our household, it checked all of the boxes. Efficient, comfortable, stylish, with plenty of room for our things. It gains about 25 miles of range per hour, even on the slowest charging stations in town. The driving range on a full charge is unbelievable. Any range anxiety we may have had when first purchased the car was quickly quelled.

Great first EV

First EV experience and it’s great. Also I love how our dealership (Doug’s Hyundai) were helpful to get us the vehicle. I recommend this dealership and the vehicle to my family and friends. Thank you.

Great car

Give it a test drive, it's great. I love this car and it's my favorite one I've ever owned in 30 years of driving. Everything is great except the cons below, which are relatively minor but leave you scratching your head that they were not included.

IONIQ 5 Sporty SUV

Prefer more mileage range on a single charge. Want a greater incentive to purchase and install a home charger. Free charging for two years is great but Electrify America locations in S. California are not sufficient.

Excellent EV

I had been waiting to buy an EV and I’m glad I waited. The Ioniq 5 is just a fantastic car. It looks like a small SUV from the outside but is very comfortable inside. It feels quite spacious and comfortable. This car is just loaded with features. The engineering and build quality is top notch. Overall, I am really happy with the car.

Love this car!

This is my first experience with an electric vehicle, although I drove a hybrid for several years and loved it. I am impressed by the smooth ride, acceleration and speed. The options included on the Limited model are expansive and very handy - only a slight learning curve. My dealership was fantastic.

Ioniq 5 review

I’ve been quite satisfied with my Ioniq 5. I’ve had it for about three months and have enjoyed the comfort, power and handling. This is my first EV and it’s been a very good experience. I’ve installed a level 2 charger in my garage and find it easy to use and a time saver, charging the battery overnight usually twice a week. No more trips to the gas station…. except for a car wash.

Awesome EV

Nothing to complain about, exceeds my expectations in many ways. I would definitely buy another ionic five. The regenerative braking is excellent, and I love the styling. My only issue with the car is that I wish it had a smaller turning radius

Great vehicle with one miss.

This is our first EV. Great range, great comfort, great space. Only one miss—no rear wiper. Rear window gets very dirty and needs frequent cleaning. The vehicle charges quickly and easily. Appreciate the 2 years of free charging.

Great Car - deceitful offer

The Ioniq 5 has met or exceeded all my expectations, particularly as related to migrating to an all EV. The free charger offer is a scam. You can only get the charger and the $600 if you contract with one of their installers at an average cost of $3000 to $4500. There is NO option to self install or use a contractor of your own.

Vehicle good/Hyundai maybe not?

Vehicle has been great so far. Charging is quick and easy. Sound system stinks. Rattling tailgate and doors are ridiculous. Service needs to be scheduled out by 2 months (just to diagnose known rattle problem). Bluelink crashes a lot or is slow to use. I like the vehicle a lot, but having purchased it new and it being called SUV of the Year by Motor Trend, I’m a little underwhelmed. But if you are looking for a roomy, stylish EV, it’s hard to beat at its price point. Hyundai had a deal for a free charger that was required to be installed using Hyundai Home Marketplace (Electrum). Installation was marked up $300-600 above pre-determined estimates from local electricians. I ended up getting the price for my original quote, but buyer beware of Hyundai’s tricks. Financing was also required to get any kind of meaningful savings on the vehicle despite us having cash on hand for outright purchase.

Lots of good but fails and certain key areas

While there is a lot to like about this car, there is still some things that just make this a dealbreaker if I had to buy it again. There’s no rear windshield wiper, which makes it impossible to see at night during rain. The fact that I still have to go into the dealer for software updates is horrible. Overall, Hyundai has a good vehicle. That’s about five years behind. In terms of software updates and features.
