Great styling, middling efficiency, fast chargers. Mixed opinions on build quality. Biggest con - dealing with Hyundai dealerships/service departments.
2023 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD Review after ~11k miles and 12 months:
Likes: Styling, seat comfort, fast charging
Dislikes: Subtle vibrations at highway speeds, lack of true OTA, average efficiency
Biggest Dislike: Hyundai service departments and still needing to take an EV to them when they have no idea what to do with them.
Over 11k miles, I've averaged 3.7 mi/kwh, city range is good 260-300 miles, highway range at 70-75 mph is at best 220-230 in summer, 190-200 in winter (down to ~ 10% , always need to leave a buffer when highway driving because you never know what situation the charger will be in)
The car is very comfortable to sit in and drive in general, suspension performance is good but it does have noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) issues at highway speeds - initially I was having the entire car and steering shake because I think the tires develop flat spots in transit, that went away after about 1k miles but even now the passenger seat, the center console with vibrate at highway speeds. This vibration brings about all sorts of subtle rattles - the door panels rattle because the plastic vibrates against the metal door - I had to take off all door panels and put felt tape to resolve, the rubber mat in the center console vibrates and creates a noise. It's all fairly subtle but audible because there's no engine noise. The cabin in general is not as well isolated as you would expect on ~50k car (not in comparison to other BMW we got for similar MSRP)
The car lacks true OTAs as in still needed to take to dealer for VCU updates, the infotainment allegedly gets OTA but very delayed, faster to manually update - they have made good changes with software updates such as route planning.
Overall it's a good car, perhaps not the quality you would expect from the price but absolute worst part of ownership is having to deal with Hyundai service centers - my experience has been they have been rude, uninformed of EVs, left the car in a dirty state and non responsive to customer complaints. Will likely avoid HMA car in the future because of that.
