Brilliant car but I don't trust it

The Ioniq 5 is brilliant and a pleasure to drive. Styling is subtle, perfect. We feel grateful to own one. But it lacks a rear wiper, which is absurd. We carry a towel to clean the rear window. The door handles stick out if the car is unlocked, which advertises that the car is unlocked. The handles also catch the clothes of passersby. (We often are waiting in lines, inside the car, where we don't think to lock the car. People squeezing between cars complain about the handles, so then we lock the car.) We took the only trim level available, and it has neither seat memory nor rain-sensor wipers. These deficiencies are proving to be bothersome because: (1) The headrests are uncomfortable and it takes a lot of adjusting for either driver to get the seats positioned to minimized the discomfort--and then all that adjustment work is lost when the other driver gets in. (2) In rain flurries, the wiper speed needs to be manually adjusted, sometimes every 10 or 20 seconds. The wipers are really loud if the windshield isn't wet enough. Seems to me that a software update could solve the door handle and front-wiper problems. My biggest reservation about the car is that Hyundai's privacy policy gives the company sweeping powers to spy on you and use that information for their benefit rather than yours. The company is quite opaque about what it actually does with the information from the microphones inside the car, the cameras, the way you drive, where you drive, the data from the phone you plug into the USB port, and so forth. I want my car to serve my needs not Hyundai's. I want Hyundai to make its money selling me the car and servicing it, rather than using my data as a recurrent revenue stream. I don't really know what Hyundai is doing, and that's a problem. I admire and enjoy this car, but I can't love a car I don't trust.

Looks and feels great, even for the SE model but lacks some options....

Love this car as far as ride, comfort and look. Still, the interior layout needs work. The car controls are mostly in the middle of the dashboard and awkward to reach for the driver. Also, no rear windshield wipers..... just why?! Some things seemed overlooked. Although this is the SE model, for the price it should have come with much more. annual trunk opening.... come on. It leaves me disappointed and frustrated as a consumer. In the end though, I still purchased it and I do enjoy driving it. It also needs more head space. I'm 5'8 and my head is close to the roof and sometimes the windshield obstructs my view somewhat, since it is so low. Definitely pay attention to these things if you are pondering this car.

Great car but with some flaws

This the probably the best EV on the market right now in terms of electrification and affordability. After driving the car for more than a month I notice some flaws. 1. front hood appear to jet out more on the left when compare to the right (approx. 0.3 cm). Probably wouldn't notice unless you pay attention. 2. accessing to charge port is problematic some time. I have to use my car key to open the port cover sometime. 3. Hyundai advertised free 2 year complimentary charging with Electrify America . I have nothing but issues w/ EA. I charge at EA station 8-9 times so far and got charged on my credit card at least 7 out of 9 times. The issue is still ongoing, not sure if this is just a isolated incident. 4. I notice when driving up a hill, the light is mostly fixated on the hill and not shining up the hill ahead. Several time the front of the car got so dark I had to slow down. If I live in Vermont or West Virginia I would test drive vehicle at night before purchasing the car.

Ioniq 5 SEL, falls a little short of the hype

Overall, the Ioniq 5 SEL is what I expected, an EV that is fun to drive, but doesn't quite live up to the hype. Nice styling, comfortable, good trunk space, and plenty of room for a 6 ft person in the from or back. While it's easy to get into (if you watch your knees on the steering wheel), it is a bit more difficult to get out of (especially from the back seat). Battery charging and distance don't live up to expectations. In fairness, I haven't been able to find a high speed charger that fast enough to charge it to 80% in 18 min (best I can do is 25 to 80%). Distance on a full charge for the AWD model is less than advertised (mostly because I have been driving it in cold weather). It's a bit difficult to see the dashboard screen through the steering wheel opening (it's kind of the only option). The Frunk is very small and pretty useless. And it comes with a tire mobility kit instead of a spare/donut....pretty useless if you have a blowout. I bought the car for a commuter as I can charge it free at work....for this purpose, it is ideal for me and cost less than the same model Tesla. It's nice enough looking for me. I wish it had roof rails and racks, and a spare tire as options. If purchasing any EV, make sure you do all of your research. Including things like ensuring that there are several charging options near you. If not, install your own home charger. All EV's have their own problems. From stories I've heard from friends and acquaintances, I don't know of any EV that fully lives up to the hype of their battery/distance or charging capabilities. Again, for my purposes, and geographic area, it was a good choice for me.

Choose your dealership wisely

Awesome vehicle, fun to drive, well built.. there are a few quirks that need to be worked out like any vehicle, but it charges super fast, looks good and performs even better. Be selective of the dealership you choose. Centennial Hyundai sucks badly and will rip you off completely with no remorse. Would have given 5 stars, but that is a large part of the equation.

Great vehicle but difficult to purchase and repair

I love my new vehicle, but it took over half a year to find a dealership selling less than 5k above msrp. For a month, I was able to enjoy the luxuries that this car had to offer, but it was short lived as another vehicle rear ended my car. I am 1 1/2 months in without my vehicle and, from the stories that I see online (and the bodyshop,) I will be without my Ioniq5 for 5+ months. Not only was purchasing this vehicle difficult, but the repair take a long time as well.

My 2023 Ioniq 5

Love it but annoyance of a few minor things that make it an exceptional vehicle. No witeless Bluetooth connection? Has camera for driving assist sensors but can't record for crashes and burglary etc?

the folks at the dealer were very easy to deal with and very helpful

I had reviewed suv's online. had decided that yours was the one I was most interested in, if it was easy to get in and out of, and i fit. the test drive was done in snow and the auto handed well. the only problem I had was I did not own a cell phone. the salesman Matthew Smith spent a lot of time setting the phone up for me.He was very good for me to deal with.

SEL nice styling and a good driving experience

SEL nice styling and a fun driving experience. However, some key fob issues or glitches. Also, upgraded front headlights missing from 2023 SEL compared to 2022 (and I did not realize when buying). Finally, SEL missing features I expected to see at this price (power passenger seat, upgraded sound, rain-sensing wipers to name a few).

Good first ev from Hyundai

The vehicle is built well, drives great, feels great, extremely comfortable. Hyundai customer support is awful, blulink is built terribly. The heater is extremely weak. I’m taking it in to the dealer to examine why the heater is so bad

Very good vehicle with only a few minor issues

This is a very well thought out vehicle. The car handles well and is fun to drive, with plenty of useful safety features. The only reasonably major issue I have is that there is no rear window wiper, which I do think would be useful. The voice control system could also be more intelligent, it often requires precise wording for specific functions.

Stylist and Featuristic car

A fun to drive car with great styling. I like the pixelated accents on the vehicle. For this price range it would have been great if surround camera was included for the SEL Trim. Overall a great EV to have. Love the spacious trunk and wide tires.

Well pleased with Dealership, vehicle price and perfomance

Well pleased with information available online such as build and price. Ioniq 5 is affordable, looks and performs well. I am dissatisfied with the lease payment through Hyundai Finance. Monthly lease payment is nearly double the amount of a comparably priced gasoline powered vehicle. Also dissatisfying the nearest EV participating Hyundai dealership is 50+ miles from my residence. The dealership I we actually purchased our vehicle at was 70+ miles away from my residence.

Excellent driving experience, nice carrying capacity, overall very desirable.

The fifth EV in my experience, this is by far the nicest. Performance is quite acceptable, vehicle is stable on the road and range is reasonable for most trips, even if the charging opportunities are sparse. Rear view during inclement weather can be quite bad however with no good way to resolve other than carry water and a (thin) squeegee for occasional cleanings. Very roomy, easy to drive and controls are - for the most part - obvious. I do wish it had arrived with the trailer hitch that the docs SAID it had though. Given that I add one, it can tow a reasonable amount and I will probably add one myself soon.

Almost perfect, with a few baffling stumbles

The 2023 Ioniq 5 is a wonderful addition to the available EVs in the world. The car makes you feel like you have taken command of a small spaceship, with very well designed and highly refined driver controls and displays. It almost feels larger inside than the outside would allow for. The driving experience is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately all of this perfections is marred by awkward or baffling design decisions in a few areas, and it brings you out of your spaceship and into a 10 year old late model economy vehicle. The lack of wireless Android Auto/CarPlay connectivity seems like an oversight, especially with the inclusion of a wireless Qi charging pad. This gets even worse when you realize that the USB port that is used for this connectivity is NOT one of the ones easily accessible in the center console, but is all the way down at the bottom of the dash, near the driver's feet, where it is impossible to access while buckled in, and leaves your phone stuck in a cubby hole out of reach. On the subject of USB ports, I would expect a car with features like interior V2L and 5 USB ports to include at LEAST one USB-C port capable of the USB-C Power Delivery standard. Sadly, all 5 of the ports are old-style USB-A connectors, with the power limitations expected of that connection. Finally, and in my opinion, almost the most egregious oversight is the use of INCANDESCENT bulbs for several of the interior fixtures. I would not expect that in a 2010 model car, and having them in what is being marketed as a car packed full of technology, just makes it seem like someone somewhere said "Well, this is what we've been using for years, throw it in there." Overall, the car is fantastic, and I love driving it every day, but they missed perfection by just enough to make it inexcusable.

Great for families

We got this as our new family car. Plenty of room in the back for our three little ones and extra USB plugs for tablets and devices. A lot of legroom up front as well. Remote start/climate control is great for winters. Nice that second adult can get into the vehicle with just the phone app to grab something without the keyfob. Not paying for gas is a big plus!

Almost perfect

There are maybe three flaws with this vehicle, but they are all pretty big flaws. The car has no rear wiper, which is awful for such a big window. The sound system is lacking. The quality is good but they need to just add more speakers all around. The hud and side blinker cameras are in a weird spot if you are on the shorter side. It also sometimes slightly exaggerates how many miles it will get on a charge, but I suspect all electrics do this. Some of this is preference, but that rear wiper is a big issue. You get two free years of charging at Electrify America, but those chargers are few and far between so that's almost pointless. Other than that the car is great.
