Nice Vehicle and Upgrade for me
The vehicle rides incredibly well and features a very quiet cabin. I upgraded from a Nissan Rogue, and the size, performance, and fuel efficiency of this hybrid are far superior. There is plenty of room in the cargo area with the third-row seats folded flat. While there are a few minor design choices in the front center console area I would change, all in all, it is a high-quality vehicle.
However, after spending some time with it, I have noticed a few areas that could use improvement:
Drive Modes: I dislike that the vehicle automatically defaults to "ECO" mode every time you start it. I wish it would stay in "My Drive" mode or remember the last setting used. Instead, you have to switch it every single time you get in manually.
Tech & Consolidation: The wireless phone charging pad gets hot very quickly while charging; I wish it included a built-in cooling feature. Additionally, the UV-C sterilizing center console is impractical, and I hardly ever use it. The main center console bin itself is mostly wasted space out of the box—you really have to buy an aftermarket organizer to make it functional for daily use.
Interior Storage & Details: There is no lock on the glove compartment, though I rarely use it anyway. Unlike the standard gas model, the hybrid version doesn't have a dedicated storage compartment for the cargo cover when it's not in use. There is also no dedicated sunglass storage near the rearview mirror, making storing your glasses a bit of a chore. Finally, for a vehicle of this tier, it really should have come with a 6-inch tint strip at the top of the windshield for sun protection.
Climate Control: The front air vents blow directly into your face. There is no way to fully redirect the airflow away from you without closing the vents entirely.
Safety & Controls: Since I don't have small children or pets, I find it annoying that Hyundai turned off the physical second- and third-row seat controls from the main front panel. As for the driver assistance, the Lane Keep Assist works fairly well, but the sensors strictly try to keep the vehicle dead-center in the lane—even when passing a semi-truck or tractor-trailer. When passing large vehicles, I prefer to hug the outer line to create a safe buffer, but the system tries to pull me back toward the center. I wish the sensors recognized adjacent traffic and allowed for a bit more flexibility to lean away from large trucks.
Despite these minor quirks and missed opportunities in interior design, the driving dynamics and utility make it a great vehicle overall.
