Princess Prius is a keeper! Still a wonderfully reliable car!

Ours was the last car on the lot before the Tsunami hit Japan and they were not available for many months in the US. Our Prius continues to run well, requiring only regular maintenance. A comfortable drive and had saved us on gas!

Older Prius, works like a new car!

My son gifted me with my 2010 Prius when my 2007 VW Beetle could no longer work well for me as it had serious transmission problems. I am so happy with my Prius. It goes on a tank of gas once a month and has been easy to drive and problem free.

I like this car

I like looking at the car with its sloping windshield and rich blue color; I wash it more than I did with previous vehicles. It goes about its business without fuss. Thirteen years old and with 202,000 mi. on a recent trip I recorded 49.3 mpg. It’s an honest car.

Good vehicle, but could use a battery warning light

Everything has been good with the Prius, our third Toyota, except that the battery gave us no warning two times, when it just died. Once it had to be towed, and yesterday the repair shop was able to jump it so we could drive it to their shop. Please consider a warning light of some kind to prevent emergencies like ours. Thank you

2010 Prius

My Prius has lived up to the hype. I have had no mechanical problems ever and the reliability is everything they say. I have driven to Missouri and back 4 times while maintaining high mileage and smooth ride at high speeds. I only gave it 4 stars because I'm getting to an age where it is becoming more difficult for me to get in and out of the car. But that's not the cars fault.

2010 Prius 2 Review

If I could, I would give this vehicle a 4.5 stars. We thoroughly enjoy driving it. I am 6 feet tall with long legs and this is the only car of any make, since the early '70s, that I have driven in and owned that provides more then enough leg room behind the steering wheel. I even have to move the seat slightly forward from the farthest backward extension of the seat. Head room is great. It handles curves very well. You feel like you are driving both a sports car and a family car. Depending on where we drive, from level terrain to hilly even mountainous terrain, the miles per gallon average is 45 to 60. Freeway and in city driving mph is 53-60. The reason I only give it a 4.5 stars is because of the three negatives we have found. The frame is too close to the ground so you must stay on good developed roads or it will bottom out. Visibility in front is poor i.e. it is very difficult to judge how close you are to up close things like vehicles, parking up close to cement blocks in straight in parking are examples, These two difficulties can be overcome with practice, however. But, the worse problem (as a driver) is looking over your right shoulder trying to see if any traffic is in the right lane or approaching from the right side and in backing up. For those models with backup cameras, there is some benefit. But, from the back side panels near the back seat head rests to the rear window there is basically no visibility for about three feet. That leaves you with a dangerous blind spot. The only way to try to overcome this issue is to take a lot of time and cranking your head and body all over the place to make sure your blind spot is safe. But, to be fair, I have test driven many models of both U.S. and foreign makes that have the same rediculous design problem. If you drove in the '50s and '60s, you will remember that none of these problems existed in cars. Perhaps one day manufacturers will incorporate better designs and new products, some that already exist, that provide clear visibility and strenght. Unfortunately, these are design problems that are kept to please buyers instead of safety issues that must be corrected. We still like the Prius. Until and if and when a better car with better mileage and safety design comes along, we will stay with the prius.

Prius review

I have a 2010 Prius and it's the best car I have ever had. It's very comfortable, has a smooth, quiet ride. There's lots of leg room in the back for passengers despite being a compact car. The gas mileage is great although I would love to have one of the hydrogen fuel cell cars that Toyota is planning on putting out in the near future. The only thing I can be critical of is that the car is very low to the ground and bottoms out very easily on small bumps or steep drive ways. The 2010 has a very nice stereo system that came standard with it, nice sound.

What I expected

At 80,000+ miles, my Prius has met all my expectations (a new car, when cared for, should present no problems), and unless something catastrophic happens, I expect that to continue for quite a while. Otherwise, the driver's ability to see outside is atrocious in all directions. Putting the rearview mirror smack in the middle of the windshield was dumb.

Dependable Toyota Prius

Love this car and have always taken care of scheduled maintenance and despite the fact that my Toyota dealer in Rockwall failed to put 3 quarts of oil in my car which i discoveref 6K miles later it still performs like a new car. Now i will change oil every 5K miles instead of the recommended 10K because i fesr some damage may have happened that's not apparent now. Word of advice at any oil change - make them show you the oil stick level before you leave shop.

2010 toyota prius

we've owned the car since 2011 and had no major mechanical repairs until recently, with 112,000 miles on the odometer i noticed it was low on oil between changes while checking other fluids under the hood. It had been down 3 quarts and yet still stayed running. We added enough oil in order to get by for a few more days, and after a Professional evaluation found we needed a new engine as ours had a blown head gasket and was leaking, and the repairs for this motor would be almost as much as a newer lower mileage motor. So we opted for a newer, lower mileage engine to be swapped out. I have seen plenty of these model years and older with over 200k miles on them and they seem to be almost indestructible, i guess we just had a little bad luck with ours? We are putting another engine in and expect to get at least another 112,000 miles and more out of it, and hopefully be our daughters first car when she turns 16.

If miles per gallon is your primary goal

I bought the 2010 Prius because I had a job that required a lot of travel. The company paid 55 cents per mile and I on;y needed a seat for me. No other equipment had to be carried, so the Prius was a perfect fit traveling and had all the needed extras. There was a good radio, a good air system, maps, vision when you backed up, easy to handle, and much more. I still like it even though I very seldom use it now.

Nice vehicle, expensive to repair.

The Prius is a very reliable vehicle. It'll start at -40 F (not advisable) after a couple tries even if it's not plugged in. I've had block heaters in all my Toyotas and routinely leave them plugged in when temps are going below 0. Except for emergencies, I avoid starting any vehicle when the temps are bitterly cold. I've owned this Prius since May 2017. It is a salvage vehicle and was rebuilt very well and included a comprehensive list of part replacement.. Salvage vehicles are thousands cheaper to buy: I've bought them several times before from reputable 'flippers' and they've worked out very well. That said, the best of Toyotas are accompanied by expensive and (I think) unreasonable repair costs. The first major fix on mine was the cooling fan and its components. This is a Toyota part: no reliable after-market sources. The cost to replace this fan and some smaller, peripheral issues was north of $1000. The part just failed: nothing to do with being a salvaged vehicle. The next major fix that showed up was the passenger-side headlight/marker lights. Every Toyota I've owned had this issue. The problem is in the factory wiring: gauge is too small to carry the current. You'd think there'd be a recall on this but, nope. This project costs north of $800. I'm not doing that fix: I can buy a LOT of bulbs for that money without compromising safety. Would I buy another Prius? Yes. Would I buy another salvaged Prius? Yes. They can be found cheap enough to put money into them and still make sense. Some flippers even offer good warranty's AND all recalls apply to salvaged vehicles as well. At the end of the day, you know what you're driving

Don't treat a Prius like any other car when it comes to a cooling issue

IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes on, or the TEMP GAUGE starts showing the car is overheating - STOP IMMEDIATELY and DON'T drive it ANY MORE! PRIUS' does not use a mechanical water pump - it's an ELECTRIC pump - and it it, or the Thermostat, goes out there is NO water circulating thru the engine AT ALL! Meaning a very., very short time to a Blown Head Gasket! READ the Owners Manual,. very carefully, to learn all the other "quirks" in the car design. IF you maintain the vehicle properly, it's a fantastic, economical, comfortable machine. Just stay on top of the maintenance.

Excellent, but....

Toyota seems to have a problem with door seals; our Prius and or prior RAV4 both experienced frozen-shut doors in winter. Also, if we can be alerted that tire pressure is low, surely the car "knows" which tire, so why doesn't it tell us? I wish the odometer registered tenths of a mile. Other than these few quibbles, it's a car I can't complain about. And that's almost a first for me.

Prius 2010

I bought my Prius new by trading in my Big SUV. Cost of the Prius was offset by the savings in gas. This was my second Prius, the first being a 2003. Loved both of them for easy driving, low cost to operate and very economical services. Never had any mechanical issues with either one. Today my wife has our third one, a 2016 model which is excellent as well. I commuted long distances for my work with both almost 500,000 miles, and would do it again.

Wonderful Car

I have been driving a New Beetle with transmission problems. It was my dream car. But the Prius is a dream to drive, such a savings with gas, but a little difficult to learn. Hight tech but high savings!
