Fair prices and honest people
This repair shop has always been fair and honest. They are my go to place. Today I just needed a head lamp replaced. In and out in under an hour. They have also checked and replaced brakes.

Obsessive DIY Owners Need A Reliable Repair Shop
I cannot be sure of what a broader public thinks as a strategy of car-ownership. Buy a new one every six years and then trade it in? Buy a used "beater" and run it until something needs $1,000 in a repair, junk it and buy another beater? Or keep an old car as a "good bet", expect and budget as much as $1,000 per year in repairs? [That's better than $5,000+/year in car payments and double the insurance.] I fit this last category.

I had to find another mechanic and repair shop to replace for the one who retired and sold his business in 2018. Trial and error is the name of the game, and it has "costs" -- costs of the error before you find the honest and capable candidate you wish to stick with. For me, this honest and capable rarity was Advanced Import Auto Repair, operated by Tim and David Padget with more than 30 years in the business.

The latest experience with "A-I-A-R" was the second significant repair I've had in two years. At other times, Tim gave me advice about some aspects of car-care for my 95 Trooper -- for which I was happy to reimburse with lunch money.

I'd been tracking this cyclic clatter coming from my engine or one of its bolt-on components. I determined that the noise was not coming from the AC compressor, the alternator, the PS pump. It would occur mostly with the AC kicking on with stress on the pulley-belts. I gave David a chance to diagnose it, and he nailed it down right away. The Trooper needed a new harmonic balancer on the engine's front exterior. At this time, it was just making a noise, but it would soon cause trouble -- even for making a pulley belt break eventually.

So I made my appointment, expecting the repair to take three hours, but David had it done in two. So now, as owner of a 26-year-old SUV, I go out to my garage to get the newspaper every morning. I turn on the ignition switch, and I stand there like Moses coming down from the mountain, arms uplifted: "Damn! That's a good engine!"

Because it purrs. And it's "purr-feck"! Thanks to Advanced Import Auto Repair and David Padget.

Car Repair
We have been going to Advanced Import for a very long time. Through a variety of cars. I would have preferred not to have been on a first name basis with Tim and David, but since we were doing business together it was nice to feel comfortable with their work and pricing. I do recommend this business.
