Scammers/ using vehicles for personal use
We brought our jeep in 8 weeks ago and about 5 weeks in we called and they admitted that the person working on our vehicle had gone to JAIL with our key and they hadn't even looked at it. They wanted to know if we had an extra key and we didn't. They call us 3 weeks later to say they fixed the it, we go in to pick it up this morning and it wasn't there!!!! It was at one of their mechanics houses as they were using it for personal reasons!! The owner slipped out after we got there and after a yelling match with a mechanic that said he didn't care about all the problems they'd caused us and that all their customers were ok with them using their vehicles for personal use and taking them home with them overnight, I walked away. There was no way I was going to have my intelligence insulted like that. The owner knows this is happening because the reason he slipped out was to try and go get the jeep before we found out what was happening. Scammers and sleeze!!

Dishonest
Had a tick in the manifold. After having my Jeep for three days, Mark called and said he replaced two broken bolts. Paid and drove home. I started my Jeep in the morning the tick was still there. Took it back and after 3 more days I had to call and ask, what's going on? Said my phone # was lost when they clearly had it. Also told me the ticking was a lifter. I asked to give me a price to fix it and drove home. Never heard back from Mark so took it to another shop. They discovered the manifold had a broken bolt! Be warned.

We will no long be using this shop, or referring.
We've used this shop for 3 years, sadly we will not be using them again.
They currently do not have a good mechanic. The ones that do work there are guessing at the issues and making fixes that are not needed.
We had a ticking in our engine, they replaced the exhaust gaskets (a quote at $392 and we paid $587). The ticking persisted, so they told me to flush the engine with seafoam.
Sorry, we are now throwing fixes at the problem without really knowing what is wrong.
We've been loyal customers for 3 years, but will not be returning.

We will no long be using this shop, or referring.
We have been loyal customers for 3 years with 5 cars, sadly, we will no longer be using this shop.
Our van was misdiagnosed and the problem continues.
We were quoted $392, to replace exhaust manifold and collecter gaskets. We paid $587.
I inspected the exhaust today to confirm they finished only 3/4s of the job and left our exhaust without one of the collecter bolts (the extra charge was for replaced rusted bolts, one was found to be replaced).
The lead mechanic is no longer working there and the mechanic that completed the job told me to fix the issue with seafoam. An issue that he stated he had fixed with the new gaskets.
We will no longer be returning, nor referring any one to this shop.

Horrible!!
Horrible experience with very dishonest and rude people. Stole money from me for services not performed. New owner, Joe said he would repair then bailed after numerous conversations, texts and sent his office manager Fred to attack me verbally. Very dishonest and rude business. Do NOT trust this business! Never again will this business have my trust nor will anyone I know ever use this business. I've been reminded by many people and repair shops that I am not alone. I gave Joe many opportunities to fix this.

Horrible!!
Owner "Brian" ripped me off! Charged for brand new transmission, no idea what is actually in my car(Not New). Problems from day 1.
New owner "Joseph" offered to fix it and make it right by putting in a new transmission as paid for then backed out and tried to get me to let him put a used transmission in with 10,000 more miles on it than my car. No resolution as of yet. Thieves disgust me!

Never again
So I left this review because I was told id receive a discount for the work done on my vehicle. Since then, I have a ton of new information for anyone looking to do business with this company.

TLDR: After 3 weeks of trying to diagnose my 1998 astro van, the mechanics here ended up missing that it had a blown head gasket and now my van is totaled.

I came here due to a recommendation from a close friend of mine and living in Portland this is a decent drive. My first visit they were kind and wonderful and took care of a check engine light that came on. A couple weeks later, I noticed after starting my van that it made a noise I can only describe as "sputtering" or "revving" and this sound was mostly audible while idling. I brought my vehicle in to their shop to FIND THE PROBLEM. After several hours, I was told that they couldnt get their computer to "throw an error code" and that whatever the problem is it would be fixed by a full tune up. This sounded off to me but I needed my van fixed. Just then one of their mechanics told me they got it to throw an error code and they found that it was misfiring. Great I said. So they went to work trying to fix it after charging me ~$700.

The next day it was done and I came to pick up my van. After driving it home I found that the problem was "minimized" but it still made the same noise and sounded very off. I called them back later that week after confirming that my vehicle was still acting up. In hindsight I should not have paid until I knew the problem was fixed.

They told me they would make it right and as I work as a teacher in Portland it was very inconvenient for me to drive out to Milwaukie. Lucky for me they offered to come pick up my van from my work. They were supposed to have it back to me at the end of the day. Turns out they needed more time so I had to find a way home from work and to work the next day. The next day they said theyd have my van back to me by noon. By 6pm when I was off work, I finally was able to reach them and asked where my van was. The owner of the company told me it was already dropped off at my work and that I wasnt there. He also made sure to add in that this was a major "convenience and that we dont usually do this".

I still didnt have my van. I asked the owner what address they dropped my van off at and the owner told me he would try to get in touch with the guy who drove it. An hour later I receive the address and found out that they dropped my van in some random neighborhood in SE Milwaukie, left the door unlocked, and hid my keys under the driver seat. I NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL? At this point I am furious and one of my coworkers kindly drove me over there to find my van.

Luckily it was safe and while driving it home it seems that whatever work they did to it didnt matter because the problem persisted. At this point, I felt a loss and like I got scammed or that these guys dont know their way around a vehicle.

Finally over the weekend I call their boss and express my grievances and request a refund. They told me that they cannot offer a refund but that they fired the employee who ditched my car in a random neighborhood and that if I bring it back in they will make it right. Not having any other options, I agreed to bring it back in for a third time, STUPIDLY. They had it for three days before I finally got it back and it still had the same problem. At this point I was contacting my bank to see if I could freeze the payment but unless I paid another mechanic to disassemble my van and prove they didnt do the work I was charged for, I wouldnt be able to. My receipt says "custom work" which means they couldve literally done anything to my van.

About a week later of trying to contact other mechanics for advice, my van kicked the bucket. I finally brought my van to the mechanics at Portland Automotive and they told me without a doubt that my van has a blown head gasket. When I described the initial problem to them they told me that is what it sounds like the problem was from the beginning which means that these crooked business men at PROTECH AUTOWORKS werent able to identify that my van had a blown head gasket and now I have no vehicle.

Theres a reason I brought my vehicle to a mechanic. To fix a problem that I cant fix myself. Now with the world all crazy due to Covid19, I have time to update this review to warn other people that the new management at this mechanics shop is a crook.

Tom said the business did really great and he was really pleased. There was a problem that was going to be really expensive and they found a solution that would be way less. He said they also described what they did and let him know what to expect. They gave him information about his vehicle and the repairs they were going to do in advance and gave him a ball park figure about the cost. He said they fixed everything and the performance is really great because they did it right.
