2018 Hyundai Tucson with 40000 miles already has a new engine and major repairs!!!!!
First off I own 3 hyundai cars 2 tucsons and a elantra. The first tucson a 2013 and the elantra 2014 are perfect cars never even been to the dealership at all ever, they are also 2.0 engine cars which seems to make a difference. Now we own a own a 2018 tucson, a 2.4 engine car, that we purchased in 2019 from team one hyundai and now has less then 40000 on it now. First we had a fuel issue at around 25000 which was said to be a gas cap issue, was told we didn't install it correctly, that the warranty didn't cover it so we had to pay for that. Which we had the same issue a year later and it was the gas cap again, which now has a damaged seal, they tried to charge 318 dollars for, again the bumper to bumper didn't cover. Well in January I took the car in for the oil light flashing. Was told the car was Ok and they couldn't find a issue. I ask them to change the oil pressure sensor even if I had to pay for it because I know that's a known issue. They agreed, and called me back and once the sensor was changed was told they couldn't get the oil light to go off now. I was also ask when the last time I changed the oil was and I said two months ago and the tech said there was no way the oil was darker then he had ever seen. After that they called me back and said that they done a oil pressure test and they found out that the pump wasn't working. And thats the reason the oil was black not that I hadn't changed the oil but it was being cooked off. Well they said they would call me back when they got the oil pump changed. I ask , because I'm also a mechanic, that would cause engine damage also and was told no, the engine was good it just needed a oil pump. I got a second call a week later informing me that after they start the process of replacing the oil pump the found severe engine damage and it needed a new motor. Well 2 months go by and I finally get the car back. Now I have had the car less than 3000 miles the oil light starts flashing again. Well this time when I checked the oil it was low I added 2 quart and kept a check on it. In less than a week it was a quart low. Now the cars has a leak, transferring, or it cooking off again. Which again running to low can also damage the engine. So again I take it back this time, after having the car for 4 days, they said it had a massive leak from the engine oil drain plug they changed during the engine swap and I quote" We think it was the oil plug but keep a check on it could be from somewhere else there was a lot of oil but we replaced the plug and seal and hopefully that's it". We still don't know if the cars fixed or if it really ever will be. So now we own a car that has less than 40000 around 39000 that we still owe for that we don't trust or drive anywhere really. We don't really trust the dealership either they have tried multiple times to fix it and also at no success. We own a newer car, so that we don't worry about these things, that has been repair so many times and cant trust is ubsurd for that amount of money. When we go on a trip we drive my 168000 mile 2013 tucson that's payed off that's more reliable. We now own a pieced together car that still has issues and owe a lot of money on. Not a new car with piece of mind like it suppost to be. I even had a buddy this week, because I drive my tucson to work and back, ask me about my car because he was looking to buy a new one for commuting. And after he heard the issues I have had he said he would look at other manufacturers. I hope this helps someone to make a informed decision. With my first two car I was all about hyundai, but now there is no way I could ever give a good reference period.
