Kona EV

We love the instant acceleration and brilliant range on a single charge. We usually charge it to 90% and we have around 270 mile range. We love not having to stop and get gas. The factory navigation works so well with the voice recognition. It is way better than our Toyota RAV4 hybrid. It is a fun car to drive and we use it when ever we go around town.

Great driving

Enjoy car. Some learning curve for charge changes due to weather. Use to commute 160 might round trip daily with no charge station at work. Enjoyable ride.dislike flat tire solution. Will be looking at alternatives.

My 2019 Kona EV Limited

I've had this car for 13 months and I'm still learning how to get the optimum output from each charge. I certainly don't miss going to gas stations. This car is very quick, especially in Sport mode. Love this car!!

Kona 2019 EV Electric

Great car-just right for my driving needs. Only complaint is lots of recalls and does not come with spare tire-inflating device did not work and I had to have my car towed. I purchased a spare tire on my own for $259. A little noisy driving, but overall I’m very happy with car.

Zippy and fun to drive. Handles well in lane changes. Able to maneuver and get ahead when needed quite easily. Feels a little unstable during sharp turns and meduim speeds. Lane assist barely works, wonder if there is any software update can help!!

Good design, poor quality control

We are satisfied with the vehicle. We are not satisfied that the vehicle is only permitted to operate at 80% of its design range without significant compensation. We understand that it's costing Hyundai a lot to replace the battery, but the company should have verified the quality control of the vendor in Nanjing before selecting it.

Love the car

Love the car but EV battery recall has been a worrisome pain.

We are happy with the car, but the battery recall has been a hassle to deal with, requiring numerous visits and is still without final resolution. I would not recommend the car until current and future battery fire problems are completely eliminated.

Love this car

Great car. An b affordable ev with great range. Fun to drive. Took a little getting used to. Quick acceleration. Easy to charge. Lots of options but easy to access them while driving. Love it’s a hatchback.

Great car, good lease deal, it is a bit over-powered. I’ve been very happy driving the car. The battery recall has been disappointing because the dealer has still not provided a replacement, and I can only charge to 80% capacity.

Kona Electric

It appears to be a well made utility vehicle, but is neither charming to look at, nor to drive. It handles like a very heavy vehicle. The view through the rear window is poor, especially in the vertical direction. It was delivered with a privacy rear window, which was a safety hazard. Vehicles coming from behind could not be seen on a sunny day if the driver was wearing sunglasses, and at night, only if the approaching vehicle from the rear was using its high beams. The window was replaced by the purchaser at a cost to him of $621.

Needs improvement

Good entry level ev but still needs lots of improvement mileage low when using heater and low when using AC they also say will charge faster than what it really does. Also front collision detection camera keeps acting up in the snow

Car's somewhat OK.

Sometimes the car AC blows in air that smells like something is burning. Driver leg room is very tight. Build quality is nice and also the car looks good. EV Charging port location should not be in the front of the car.

A great car with some concerning flaws

This would be a great car except for the repeated serious safety recalls. The comfort features and styling are well done and tasteful. The battery range is excellent. This car performs admirably on highways and does well on curvy mountain roads. Unfortunately, serious safety recalls do not make this a car I can recommend. This is a shame, because it would have been an excellent car otherwise.

If you like the smell of fertilizer this car is for you

Bought this car based in great reviews. My car emits a noxious chemical odor like fertilizer through the vents. Tried working with dealer and told it is the heated seats!!! Makes no sense. Also tried asking Hyundai for help received no assistance. Will not buy Hyundai again as I am on my own with a car that makes me sick.

Disappointment that the car I truly enjoyed turned into a lemon

I purchased the 2019 Kona EV with great enthusiasm. My initial experience was very positive. I enjoyed excellent performance and handling, with ample acceleration even in the ECO setting. Unfortunately, when fall weather got cool, I discovered that the heater did not work. Even worse, the service department was unable to diagnose and confirm the defect without leaving the car overnight to assistance from regional service engineers. Ultimately, it was determined that a defective part could NOT be replaced, as the part is not available. Hyundai has indicated they will be buying the car back from me. While I am glad that they have committed to refunding my purchase, the time I have lost dealing with this situation has been very disappointing. I hope they can address this new model/production quality issue and that future purchasers can enjoy the pluses of the Kona EV without the problems I have experienced.

Kona EV too many recalls, no remedy. Hyundai needs to replace battery or buy back defective product. Not buying another Hyundai. Car has safety issues ( battery possibly catching on fire) that are not being addressed in a timely manner. I bought the car as a commuter car because of the range. Now the range is less because Hyundai has limited charging to 80%. It doesn’t lessen what I have to pay. It’s not worth the money. Really regret buying this car. Now if I replace it I will still be inconvenienced because I’ll have to apply for a decal with DMV before being allowed to drive in the carpool lane. I commute almost 80 miles one way.
