The answer to the common SUV's biggest miss: an open bed
I've always liked the unibody concept of small pickups like the Subaru Baja (or the Brat, before that!), so when Ford and Hyundai came out with their uni-trucks, I started looking hard at them.
One of my sons bought a 22 Ford Maverick since he works in the trades and needed something cheap with a bed to hold supplies, etc. It's nice, simple work truck but Ford obviously cut corners on build quality and features to keep the price down. It really is a budget truck.
The SC is less like a work truck and more like an SUV. If you're not in the trades, but looking to do occasional "truck stuff", the SC is the nicer pick. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. The SC costs more, but you get more quality, refinement and warranty out of the deal.
