Timing Belt Problem

With only 37,300 miles and five years our Hyundai Elantra Touring's timing belt had to be replaced although the normal maintenance replacement is at 90,000 miles.

Terrible harsh ride

Their cars are not made for Minnesota roads that are bumpy. The ride is so harsh the ride is unbearable. Trade in value drops like a rock.

Window issues

They know there is a defect but they won’t fix the problem. If the company stands by their product than with knowing there is an issue you would think they would fix it. It’s hard to drive the car when you are worried the window will break when you uses it.

May I design this car next year

Drivers visor is too close to the drivers head. Ceiling is low. Tires are thin. Aluminum not durable. Body is durable for passengers if theirs a collision. Seatbelts need to be softer so that it won't cut skin. Easier buckling car restraints should be installed for car seats. Make a car fit for a Woman with makeup compartment, drink holder, vanity wider mirrors. Have a slide in side view mirror to prevent other vehicles from hitting it while parked. Wider front bucket seats that don't curve up along the edges of chairs. That hurts. Make dashboards higher.

We haven't had the car for 6 years yet and the transmission has been replaced, on our 4th odometer, and two broken door windows that cost over $300.00 each to replaced (just by simply opening the window - it fell and broke).

Problems Over Time

When I first purchased my Hyundai, I loved it. But as years go by, you realize that Hyundai cars are make with crappy parts and won’t be buying another one. Car was taken to Piazza Hyundai in West Chester where I received faulty repairs and ended up taking car to another mechanic to have the same repairs fixed and Piazza Hyundai would not refund me my money back.

Although economical to drive, averaging around 29 to 32 mi, it does have a lot of road noise. The cab is comfortable enough, and there is plenty of head room. A couple of drawbacks are road noise, changing side marker lights, changing head and tail lights - instructions are not really clear-.

not a reliable vehicle.

instrument display burned out at 24000 miles and had to be replaced, both front door windows broke and had to have the regulators replaced, front marker lights filled with water and had to be replaced along with wiring harness. All this and the car has only 25200 miles on it.

Have had 2 instrument clusters replaced, a driver’s side window regulator and also had a significant and costly emissions repair. All of this occurred in a 5 yr old vehicle with only 30,000 miles. Incredibly disappointing.

Good summer car.

compare to a 2009 that I had, it is a lot better. i wish it had blue tooth to connect my smart phone. i'm giving it a 3 stars for the reason that I'm not to crazy about the brakes in the snow. you truly, really have to drive super careful in the snow. Once I was going down a hill not to steep and when I applied the brakes, I slid into the intersection and around the corner. thank God no cars were coming. in the rain and dry run. its ok. I would think this vehicle is more for the summer than for the winter. otherwise it runs well. I had mine for 7 years now it is reliable to get around and take it cross country on vacation. the A/C is very good and the heat is great. Just like anything else, How you take care of the car, will determine how long it will last. i'll keep it until something else comes along.

Touring 2012

Has had electrical issues that started after 15,000 miles. The motor runs well, poor gas milage 25 miles to gallon. needed recall work which was taken care of during oil changes. I feel safe in the car its well made and drives real good in the snow, and on ice too.

Touring 2012

The parts are costly and its expensive to have parts replaced through the dealerships. $260 to replace a swich in my drivers door to roll the passenger side window up and down, in 8 years i have rolled that wondow down a total of 8 times and the switch no longer works. The light burns out in my odometer every 30,000. The car has electrical issues and its costly.

ELANTRA/TOURING

It's a great little car. It serves all my needs, good cargo hauling space and roof rack too. Lots of comfort features. The main dislike is the firm, rough ride-more road feel than I like. Otherwise it's a well designed car.

Big problem

After 40,000 +mi it needed a new transmission I had to pay full price for since being the second owner I was conveniently “just out of warranty”. NO help at all from Hyundai and was told to call the BBB if I wanted a better answer! NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring

A great little car for my purposes. I wanted a small hatchback to carry items from the grocery store or hardware store. I wanted comfortable seats, cruise, tilt, air conditioning, adjustable seats, roof carrier racks, decent audio (XM, AM, FM, Aux, USB, etc), electric windows and outside rear view mirrors. This car meets those needs perfectly. The body is unusually tight and sturdy and all the fittings are very good. I used the Consumer Reports rating to estimate reliability and their ratings have been accurate - excellent reliability. On the down side, the engine/transmission combination seems to have been designed for the European market of backroads and seems optimized for a road speed of about 50mph. Holding 50mph in Texas, I have gotten as high as 31mpg, measured by miles driven divided by gallons added. At regular road speeds of 75mph, mileage drops to 27 on a good day. City driving is around 24 most of the time but can go as low as 22mpg when driving with summer ethanol mixtures. Dealer support has been very good with the maintenance staff taking an interest in making me happy with the car. Cannot complain about that. Overall, I am happy with the vehicle even with the few warts. I would like better mpg but my needs are mostly around town and not many miles per month so I can live with the mileage. The rest of the car, I love!

Love this care

Perfect vehicle for running errands around town. Big enough to carry what I need, small enough to fit in small car parking spaces. Great visibility all around. Gas mileage is just average, but that's a tradeoff for the good visibility - the more aerodynamic cars get better mileage, but the visibility is really poor. Since I just drive short distances in this car, it's a good tradeoff. And Hyundai makes reliable cars with an excellent warranty. Plus the dealer gives me great service and reasonable prices.

overall great vehicle - Just the right size with a solid ride, good handling, a lot of room and versatile cargo capability. Only negative is the rather stiff ride from the low profile tires - I will be changing tires (and wheels) to something a bit more comfort friendly when original tires need replacement .
