Great, except... heater works intermittently; not good in cold weather

Overall I like the car. My wife and I each purchased one at the same time, and they're both performing similarly. The car handles well in almost all conditions for driving: Rough roads, wet pavement, snow-covered streets - you name it, and it seems to do a good job. Acceleration is very good (easy to get onto the highway without being concerned about getting up to speed in a reasonable time), handling is nice and smooth, the HDA is an interesting addition and works well, and the noise inside the cabin isn't bad (it could definitely be improved, but it's not annoying). It's comfortable inside (plenty of room), and the folding rear seats make transporting a breeze. The ability to use the car as a source of electricity (providing a standard household outlet with the optional plug) is a nice feature that I have used a couple of times when we lost power briefly at our house. There are two things that keep it from being stellar. 1. The heater works only intermittently; it is inconsistent and can't be replicated "on command" so both times I've taken it to the dealership for service to check out the heater, it worked. I have video showing the heat turned all the way up (82°) and you can see the steam coming from my breath from the cold air coming out of the vents. The 45+ minute drive to and from work is brutal when the heater isn't working at all (other than circulating the freezing cold air inside the cabin). 2. The collision detection system is "hit or miss" (no pun intended) - sometimes, it seems to be a bit too conservative when it senses other vehicles showing down or stopped ahead. I understand the concept of taking the more conservative approach - for safety - but it can also cause anxiety when it applies the brakes and you're not expecting it (and you have the vehicle under control). The first problem could be a deal-breaker for someone who lives in a cold weather state, and if it doesn't get resolved soon, I will definitely be letting people know that it's an issue that is more than bothersome - it makes driving uncomfortable and potentially even dangerous. The second problem is possibly just something that needs some tweaking, or alternatively, it would be nice to provide a way to either turn that feature off or on.

Constant Air Conditioning Problems

It is a nice car besides the unknown issue with the ac intermittent shutting off and on after a restart. Eventually it just stops working and dealership or corporate i dont think has found a resolution to the problem. Ive seen many ppl complain about the iccu issue not sure if that's whats wrong with mine. Also have experience where the infotainment display and cruis control radar lane assist all gets turned off screen goes black and disables all features requiring you to pull over and restart the car. Also noticed at only 13k odo my fully charged car Ave 3.4 kwh per mile was showing about 305 mile range at 100% now it's only showing about 250 to 270 max range. And realistically I get about 220 before I need to recharge because I'll only have about 20 to 32% remaining which wouldn't get me to the next available charger. Positives so far is that it really charges quick on available 13 mins to 80% and about 30 mins to 100% on a 350 charging network. Car drives smooth and with the awd it launches very quick. Nice features come with my limited package such as vehicle to load which turns your car to a generator to power your house incase of a power outage or storm. I have mine where I can power half my breaker box and power the critical parts of my house by back feeding my car charger port plug in. Hopefully hyundai find out a resolution to my issues. Compared to a tesla tesla has very nice software and customizable features. But tesla build quality and lack of buttons are horrible.

Considering an Ionic 5, don’t

The Ionic is ok in town, the ride isn’t great due to the heavy battery but otherwise not terrible. Just don’t ever take it on a roadtrip. The 300 mile range becomes 100 miles on the freeway without regenerative breaking. If it’s your around town car and you have other for trips it’s fine for that and that alone, just not good for anything else.one other thing they don’t tell you about the heavy Ionic, that extra battery weight causes it to go through tires like crazy.

Our first EV

Comfort, interior room, range and features are great. We are getting used to a different maintenance schedule for an EV. Tire rotations and regular tire replacement are a must. I’ve had good laughs with the dealership about maintenance checklists that include an oil change and other items that don’t apply to an EV. Hyundai provided a free adapter for using NACS chargers and we haven’t used it yet or gone on a long distance trip requiring charging along the way.

All good except for ICCU

Love the car, except the long repair time required for ICCU totalling almost 3 months. Customer service was a low light. After the ICCU failed the first time, I had signed a release that contained the words "past present and future", which prevented me from claiming lemon law when the ICCU failed a second time. It was a clever legal maneuver that I didn't know about until I contacted a lemon law lawyer. All in all, I don't feel confident in road tripping with the ioniq 5 due to the persistent ICCU issue.

The info system is sometimes inconsistent. After turning on the car and pressing media the climate system turns to temperatures that were not programmed as well as the direction of the ventilators.

Great Everyday Runabout

I can’t imagine going back to a gas vehicle after this, just wish it had more range. Great for daily life, tough for a roadtrip. Until we have a better charging network (IONNA has been so slow to rollout) traveling any distance with an electric car is a pain.

Close but still has a way to go

Has a way to go to close the gap with Tesla. From not being able to use my phone as the key. The Bluelink app never works, rear hatch rattles, constant service reminder that doesn’t go away after being reset at the dealer.

Love almost everything about the car.

My Ioniq 5 has been a wonderful car. I love everything about it. Then after having it for 15 months the ICCU unit went out and I had to be towed into the dealership. so far it has been for 2 weeks.
