Near perfection

Decently good value for the money. Has a few flaws but still better and easier to drive than competitors in the same space.

Absolutely Love My IONIQ 5!

★★★★★ **Absolutely Love My IONIQ 5!** I absolutely love my Hyundai IONIQ 5 Limited! From the design to the technology and overall driving experience, this car has exceeded my expectations. The ride is incredibly smooth, quiet, and comfortable, with plenty of power when you need it. The interior is spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed. I especially love the panoramic glass roof, ventilated and heated seats, head-up display, blind-spot camera views, 360-degree surround-view cameras, and all the driver-assistance features. Highway Driving Assist makes longer drives so much more enjoyable, and the regenerative braking and i-Pedal driving are fantastic once you get used to them. The remote parking features are also a really cool bonus! The technology throughout the vehicle is impressive, and I appreciate how much customization is available. It's genuinely a pleasure to drive, whether I'm running errands around town or heading out on a longer trip. **My biggest area for improvement is the Bluelink app.** While I love having the ability to remotely lock and unlock the doors, start the climate control, and check the vehicle's status, these commands can be frustratingly slow to execute. I'd love to see Hyundai improve the responsiveness and make the experience feel more instantaneous. I'd also really love to see Hyundai expand its camera and security capabilities. Coming from the Tesla ecosystem, I miss having the ability to view the vehicle's cameras live from my phone, use a built-in dashcam to record while driving, and have something similar to Tesla's Sentry Mode that monitors and records activity around the vehicle while parked. With all the cameras and technology already integrated into the IONIQ 5, these would be fantastic additions. Those are really my only complaints, and they're more of a wish list for future software improvements than anything else. **Overall, it's an easy 5 stars from me!** Hyundai has created an incredible EV that combines comfort, performance, technology, and beautiful design. I genuinely look forward to driving it every day, and with a few improvements to the connected features and security technology, it would be even closer to perfect!

My 2026 Ioniq 5

Stylish mid-sized EV, good range, fairly quick, comfortable but somewhat cheap-looking interior. Cons include very intrusive driver aids, especially the distance alarms. Auto headlights are way too sensitive and I have to keep them off most of the time. Lack of forward-facing camera.

Great EV with a few manageable quirks and annoyances

The Ionic 5 gets all the big things right: comfortable and quiet, plenty of power, good range, great charging speed, charming looks, great value for money. I definitely have some grumbles, but they are all manageable. Having owned my car for about 4 months, I wouldn't trade it for any other similarly priced EVs available today. That said, here are my gripes: When lane-keeping is turned on, the "look at the road!" alarm goes off way too much. I am looking at the road! I promise! Proximity sensors beep way too much when backing up or pulling into a parking space. Spotify via Carplay is a tad laggy for some reason. I don't find the built-in maps and find-a-charger feature very usable. Occasionally the "automatic emergency breaking" feature kicks in when it doesn't need to. For example, when backing out of a parking spot. I wish I could default my drive mode to "Sport."

So glad I bought it

This car is so fun to drive. I have to admit I had some range anxiety at first, but after several road trips this summer I can confidently say the charging infrastructure is there. But I do most of my charging at home. Anyway, its a blast to drive and has good tech (im upgrading from a 11 year old prius). And its saved me tons of money in gas already.

The perfect blend of technology, practicality, and comfort

I really like this car, and it checks all of the boxes. No other vehicle in this class gives you this combination of features, comfort, luxury, and practicality. After several days of online research, my short list included the ioniq 5, the Tesla Model Y, and the Tesla Model 3. Key considerations were purchase price, storage capacity, electric range, safety/driving features, comfort for daily drive, commuting, and long trips, and these vehicles had the best blend of those features. After seeing the typical sedan trunk space of the Model 3, I quickly shortened my list to just the two ... the ioniq 5 and the Model Y. Coming from a Subaru Outback, I needed more storage space. Then came multiple test drives. The Tesla Y is a nice car, and as my wife said, "They make it so easy to buy" between low interest rates, online ordering, no sales pressure, and scheduled test drive. And the self-driving is impressive, at least on the route the saleswoman took me on. But there were several things about the Tesla I just couldn't get past: 1) The self-driving option costs $99/month, so your car payment instantly goes up if you use that feature. 2) There is no Apple CarPlay, which I use daily for maps, podcasts, audio books, and seeing important calls and texts coming in while I'm driving. If you want any type of connectivity or access to live maps, you have to pay another $10/month. 3) The "everything on one screen" interface of the Tesla seems like an accident waiting to happen. Sure, if you're in self-driving mode, maybe taking 20 seconds of staring at the screen to adjust the cabin temperature is fine. But I'd rather have a few buttons so I can keep my eyes on the road. 4) Maybe it's the lack of a tactile interface, or the materials used in the cabin, or a combination of the two, but the interior of the Tesla felt sparse and cheap and hollow. Once I heard the phrase "iPad on wheels" to describe the Tesla, I couldn't stop thinking how accurate that felt to me. I actually enjoy the act of driving, so their efforts to completely remove me from the process felt cold. But I realize this is exactly the feature some people enjoy, which is fine. Then I drove the ioniq 5 and realized that this car makes me smile when I'm in it. I love how it looks, how it feels, and how it functions. Where the Tesla felt very utilitarian, the Hyundai feels inviting and fun and comfortable. The Tesla wants to get you from point A to point B in an electric fog with as little interaction as possible, but the Hyundai invites you to be alive and enjoy the ride. The cabin is way more comfortable, the ride and the drive feel luxurious and smooth, and all the information you need is right at your fingertips. The heads-up display is super helpful, the buttons on the steering wheel take care of most things you need while driving, and then there are the deeper menus on the screen when you need them. But in general, you can keep your eyes on the road, unlike the Tesla. And where the Tesla feels almost like you're driving a really fast golf cart, the Hyundai feels like a luxury car. No comparison.

Three month ownership evaluation

Good build quality. Drives nice. Handles and accelerates well. Some irritating electronic issues that could be easily fixed with software updates. Overall, pretty happy with the car.

great car with a few quirks

The car is great. One of the biggest issues is with the highway drive assist. It's not calibrated correctly, as im looking directly at the road, and yet it gives me the warning about keep eyes on the road.

Love my Ioniq!

I love the quiet, smooth ride. It is a great looking car and just the right size -- four door but not too large and bulky. The control panel is easy to understand. I especially love not having to buy gas.

Turning radius

Small turning radius. There should be better indication of what to press to release charging cable. I have pulled it. Pressed the little button . Not sure if that actually works. There is kind of no feedback . Cup holders for rear?
