2nd Ioniq 5 and even better than the first!

This is my second Ioniq 5. I moved to a 2024 after driving electric BMWs for years. I just upgraded to the 2026 and this one is even better. More powerful, better accessory placement in the cabin, and generally easier to use features.

Adaptive Cruise Control is Unsafe for Stop-and-Go Traffic

I was initially very happy with this vehicle, but my experience changed after using the cruise control on the highway. It does not handle stop-and-go traffic well at all. We nearly had two serious accidents because the car failed to stop when the vehicles in front of us did. I no longer feel safe using this feature in heavy traffic.

Believe in EV

This car is comfortable to sit in. It accelerates like a rocket. It's fun for in-town and highway. Goes at least 200 miles on a charge..uphill.

A great car, with a few very annoying flaws

I love almost every thing about the car. It accelerates well and smoothly. It handles reasonably well for such a heavy car. It's very comfortable. The technology is great. A few things that are easily fixed with a software update *really* need to be fixed, though: 1) I'm frustrated by having to hit the difficult small depression in the door handle to lock my car. I frequently find it hasn't been locked. The car really needs an update to enable "walk away locking", or at a minimum the ability to press the lock button after opening the door and have it actually work. 2) Having to click a button every time I start the car and every time I put it into reverse in order to enable the i-Pedal (1-pedal) mode is incredibly annoying, and has led to a few cases where I was expecting deceleration that didn't happen and got unsafely close to the car or intersection ahead before noticing. I.e. a safety issue. 3) The start up sequence is stupidly long. The fact that it won't even start *playing the radio* until the confirm button is pressed, combined with the sometimes large delay before the Confirm button *even appears* has caused me to start driving before it finishes, then interact with the screen to dismiss it before the 10 seconds are up. In order words, it is encouraging a safety problem that goes against the stated purpose of the screen. The fact that Android Auto/Navigation is not available during the splash screen and that it is slow to connect means I end up messing with the *that* screen while driving too. Three improvements to the start up sequence are needed: 1) Start up time needs to be faster and more predictable. 2) Start the last radio setting and allow Android Auto connection immediately. 3) Allow more time where the car will start *without* the splash screen after being turned off. Preferably: only ask for this confirmation *once per day* when detecting the same key is being used, or at least make all functions available immediately. One side note: I received a "check engine" light around 1000 miles, and the Hyundai dealer service said the OBD code for it was not in their manuals, nor did Hyundai's service helpline know what it meant. That's frustrating. One final note: the auto-unlock feature is too touchy, and should be tweaked to account for accidental activations better. I just tried to put on a car cover, and the car locked and unlocked 5 times during the process, extending the mirrors, in spite of my relocking it manually. Maybe require manual unlock for a while if it's manually locked?

New model with equal parts upgrades and downgrades

I previously leaded the 2024 Ioniq 5 LTD AWD and it nearly felt like a perfect vehicle - minus a couple of nitpicks I had (no rear windshield wiper with that angled glass surface?Keeping that usable was a regular annoyance). Thankfully, the 2026 corrected that, adding rear window washing and niceties like wireless carplay (wired carplay made the 2024 model feel out of date when it was brand new). Sadly, there are downgrades in the 2026 version like the side windows no longer dipping when reversing, and menu options just outright not working (e.g. General settings/media, turn off autoplay on vehicle start does nothing. Every time whatever I was listening to blasts as soon as Carplay starts). Some of the materials feel less premium, but maybe there were some gains in mileage due to weight reduction. Overall, I'm far less impressed with the 2026 and, if the lease buyout had been justifiable, I would've rather stuck with the 2024. I loved my 2024 Ioniq 5. The 2026 model is fine.

I Love My Second Ioniq 5 XRT

After leasing a 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL RWD for two years, I recently moved into my second Ioniq 5—this time the XRT—and I couldn’t be happier with the decision. As my lease was ending, I explored other options, but the refreshed design and unique character of the XRT really stood out and brought me back. The updated user interface introduced in the newer model is a noticeable improvement—more intuitive, more refined, and simply better to use day-to-day. The Ioniq 5 was already a great car, but this version clearly shows how Hyundai continues to evolve and improve it. I also own a Model Y, so I have a direct comparison point, and honestly, I don’t understand why more people aren’t paying attention to the Ioniq 5. It offers excellent value, strong performance, and thoughtful features that make everyday driving more enjoyable. Overall, this is a great car, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering an EV.

Good Choice!

I traded in my Tesla Model 3, and I have no regrets or buyer's remorse! I am still discovering all the features it offers. I'm looking forward to taking it on a road trip.

Ioniq 5 Pros and Cons

I'm very much enjoying my Ioniq 5. The ride is very smooth, acceleration is great, lots of features. However there are some negatives. The car beeps at me way too often, for example if I'm changing lanes and another car in that lane is 2-3 car lengths back it beeps. Yet I don't want to shut it off completely. I wish it was adjustable. Minor but annoying is there's no great place to keep my sunglasses. I also worry a lot about the oft reported ICCU failures, which can cause power loss and charging issues, and 12-volt battery failures.

Free from gas extortion

Battery electric vehicles are the future of transport. I couldn't wait any longer to join the revolution so I bought the Ioniq 5. I was tired of being victimized by the oil and gas industry and by the idiot politicians they support financially.
