So, it started on January 9, 2025. My Hyundai Ioniq 6 with just a few thousand miles on it showed a warning that the front hazard detection system was inoperative. I also had a recall notice. I called and talked to M and setup an appointment for Monday January 13 @ 7:30 AM. When I arrived, I was told that the appointment should never have been arranged because the technician for EV cars did not come in until Wednesday. Irritating for certain but whatever.
I returned on Wednesday (01/15) and dropped the car off with C who informed me that the car would be ready that afternoon. I mentioned that the car needed windshield washer fluid. C said they would take care of it. (More on this later) They had a shuttle driver drop me off at work. @ 3:30 C called and said they needed to order a part to fix the hazard detection problem and that the car would be ready on Friday (01/17). They set me up with a rental car.
On Friday morning, having heard nothing from the dealership, I called C and was told the part had not come in (or maybe they sent the wrong part?) and the car would be ready the following Tuesday (01/21). I heard nothing from them on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning I called and left a number of voice mails that were not answered. On Thursday (01/23) I made several more phone calls before C called me @ 9:57 AM to tell me that the car would be ready by 11:00 Friday—the following day.
On Friday morning (01/24) C called to tell me that the damage was due to rodents, that it was not covered by warranty and that it would cost @ $2,700 for the repair. We need to dissect this a little bit. Gossett had had my car for a week and a half at this point. They obviously had not looked at the damage before Friday morning or they would have known that it was rodent damage. Undoubtably, they hooked up the computer, saw that the sensor was not responding and ordered the part. So, they really didn’t know what the problem was until Friday morning. I question if the sensor was bad. Is it not possible that the wires were chewed and all it needed was a new harness? We will never know. Also, I have parked cars in the same place I was parking the Ioniq 6 for ten years and never had a problem. I, of course, immediately placed mouse traps around the area, and in two weeks, caught nothing but two small birds. This Hyundai 6 is a 2023 model that sat on their lot for over a year. Is it possible that this damage occurred on their lot? Again, we will never know.
After getting with my insurance company. I called C back @ 11:15 AM (01/24) to tell him to proceed with the repair.
On Tuesday (02/04) I spoke to M @ 9:29 AM and was told that someone would call me back with the time the car would be ready. Once again, having heard nothing from the dealership, I called C @ 4:40 PM and was told that they needed to order a fender liner that they would receive on Thursday (02/06) and the car would be ready Friday afternoon.
On Thursday (02/06) @ 2:52 PM, I received a text from C stating that the necessary part was delayed until Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week (02/11 or 02/12). Also, at some point the total cost of the repair had ballooned to $3,299.07.
Of course, I did not hear anything from the dealership on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday. On Friday I called the dealership. Below, you will find my notes from that day

Was told by S that C was gone to lunch and placed on hold. She said she would call C and placed me back on hold. S said that the car was not ready.
@ 2:08 PM S called back to say that she talked to the technician and the car was ready and I could come pick it up. She was very nice.
So, I picked up my car on Friday afternoon 02/14, a full month after dropping it off. And you think our story is finished? Almost.
It’s important to note that the Ioniq 6 gives you a warning when started if you are low on washer fluid. The car was already started when I picked it up, but when I got home and started it the next day, I got the warning. Now, they must have started this vehicle numerous times over the month that it was there, but they never got around to checking the washer fluid level. If they had, they might have noticed that the tube leaving the reservoir was cracked and leaking.
All’s well that ends well? Only you can be the judge.
