I love my 2005 Tundra. It has almost 240,000 miles and the main problems I have had were from me hitting deer on the highway in Colorado and Wyoming. I bought it with 20,000 miles on it in 2006 and would buy its twin as a second car in a heartbeat if I could find one someone is willing to sell. Like me, most owners don't want to sell theirs.

Overall, I'm impressed with this truck with only two minor niggles.
I've been impressed with the power of the V6 in this truck. Quick, responsive and surprising low end torque for a V6 as I have been a fan of V8 and V10 power plants in previous trucks.
Niggle #1 Specified alignment specifications.
Niggle #2 Arm rest design.

Reliable powerhouse
This V8 continues to run like a precision top. Relatively zero maintenance beyond the every 3000 mile oil change and lube, new tires and every 90k miles service. After 18 years, just now replacing some undercarriage parts in the front end. Comfortable interior with every moving part still in excellent working condition.

Will outlive it’s owner
My Step-side SR5 ‘05 Tundra has 200K miles and is still as strong as the day I bought it.
Been back and forth all over the USA, sometimes hauling heavy loads or trailers. The 4.7 L V8 is a beautifully designed engine that just keeps performing smooth & strong. Do routine maintenance and this truck will outlive you.

I’m a proud Tundra fan
Bought our first tundra in 2003 for my wife, limited edition, all the bells and whistles. passed down to my son. I bought a 2007 TRD package crew max. after that my son bought a 2014 crew Max Limited edition TOD package our youngest son now has a 2005 tundra long dead that he uses to go camping surfing and skiing. These trucks last.

2005 Toyota Tundra - Overrated Vehicle
Had frame corrosion that competely ate through the frame. Toyota would not back up the failure. They had a recall to supposedly correct this with an anticorrosive coating - but that did nothing to prevent the actual frame problem. Had to have welding repairs made. Also had a secondary air injection system failure that requires extensive engine work to repair (again not covered). Truck midwoofer speakers crapped out and Toyota really overprices replacement speakers - plus made them in an odd size. Replaced with Infinity Kapps which fit, were way better and cost a lot less. I've kept the truck as I don't put a lot of miles on it. Also had trouble with head gasket failure on 3.0 engine for a Toyota 4Runner. Will never buy another Toyota.

Fits the bill nicely for us.
I'd have given this truck a 5 star but for 2 design issues. They aren't problems, per se, but are irritants to our enjoyment of the truck. 1 is the design of the door arm rests. There isn't a comfortable place to rest one's arm due to the placement of the 'pulls' for closing the door. They're raised and surrounded by hard plastic right where a person's elbow rests. 2 is the steps to enter the truck. This is a 2wd and therefore not as high as most, but the placement of the steps (running boards?) is only 2-3 inches below the level of the floor. One still has to step very high to get in the truck via these steps and it means having to duck down to enter the cab and exiting requires effort to get up from the seat. It makes it feel as though one is sitting on a very low chair. We're retired and I'm looking to have the brackets replaced to lower the step. Both of these items should have been noted by simply getting in and out of the truck and driving it for a few miles by the designers. Other than those 2 that irritate every time it's driven, I wish I'd noted the need to open both doors to access the back seat. Picture being in a parking lot and needing to load or unload a couple bags of groceries in the back seat into or out of a grocery cart.

Trusted Friend
Driven over 200K miles with this. Purchased used and found it "soft" like a car ride. Since I use it for work, I added suspension parts that helped stabilize it in the turns without making it uncomfortable. Has been very reliable, dependable and, though not a full-sized truck, has done reasonably well in construction industry. Has great towing capacity and overall great handling. It's a keeper.

365k and going strong. Can't go wrong with Toyota. No major repairs. Just well maintained with full synthetic oil changes every 5K miles. Truck haas lasted at least 2x longer than any other maker. Great value for the money.

Older Tundra Disappoints
I purchased this truck in 2020. It had 89,000 miles and was driven by a little old lady who purchased it new. It was a deal I could not pass up. The truck replaced my Ford F150 that had 150,000 miles.
I expected much more from a Toyota. The turning radius is just awful, it rides like a heavy-duty truck and has less interior space than my older truck. It might be a case of having an owner who wants more a car than a truck.

Vehicle Rating
We bought this Tundra in 2005 & have had NO major problems. My husband drove (because I had health problems) drove almost always until 2017 when he passed away. I have been driving ever since. I LOVE the space in the truck bed & on the inside of the cab. It drives & rides SO nicely! IF I ever have to trade, I'll get another Tundra.

Keeps on Going
Our 2005 Toyota Tundra has 318,000 miles. It has been a very dependable vehicle. We have made many trips to Montana in the Winter and Summer with no problems. It has become part of the family. It will be hard to replace.
