2008 Crown Victoria

This car is a police interceptor it's giving me great service for many years now. I'm constantly on the road with it for work. My profession is fugitive recovery.

Ford Crown Victoria - 2008 - the last one.

In 2009, I was suddenly in need of a company car replacement. I have had and knew I wanted another Ford Crown Victoria, so began a search at several local Ford dealerships. The unique thing here is that 2008 was the last production model for the Ford Crown Victoria. Any purchase had to be a used vehicle. After finding and driving several candidates, I selected one with about 17,000 miles on it. Company cars in my business get high mileage and the worst of driving conditions. They get fairly beat up over the usage cycle. The Crown Victoria can handle it, hence my choice. In 2016, I no longer needed a company car, so I just kept the Crown Victoria as a personal car through the present day. It was an easy transition as the Crown Victoria not only served business needs, it is a stylish, comfortable automobile for personal use. My only wish is that they had not quit making the Crown Victoria in 2008.

Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor P71.

One of the most iconic vehicles of the 90s-2013. Unless you lived under a rock, you know the car. Typical Ford vehicle. The engine and transmission are pretty hardy and easy to keep running many miles. Reason why taxi companies love them. Nice ride. V8 power but not a bunch of it. Could use another 100hp to be real fun. Trunk big enough to haul about anything. Great suspension. With the P71 you get some nice perks like better brakes, more cooling capacity, upgrade alternator and few more ponies over the standard Crown Vic. Stiffer suspension still gives a nice ride with 17” steel wheels that are hard to abuse. Gas mileage on par with a V8 but not bad for the ride. The bad. There are several things that you can count on wearing out before your ready for them. Intake manifold will fail around the 100k mark. The wiper motor board is junk. It will fail in the rain on you. Not cheap. Odometer light will begin to fail after 100k. Intermittent at first but eventually it will go blackout. Luckily not bad to have rebuilt but removal/install labor is pricey. ABS module will fail. You can still drive just fine without it but the dash light will drive you nuts. I grew up without ABS so didn’t rely on it anyway. Easy to send in to have rebuilt though. No more light on. Nice. Hard to pass up an old cop car. Don’t be afraid of one at the 100k mark but be prepared to completely hose out the interior and clean it up with lots of cleaner. Expect sunflower seed shells under the seats. Old tickets and lots of trash. A decent paint job doesn’t hurt either unless you like the black and whit motif. All in all, I’d do it again. Spacious framed vehicles are a thing of the past. I wish Ford made parts that lasted longer but they don’t. Glad for aftermarket parts that beat the originals in quality. If your looking for a full sized, 4 door car with big trunk and good performance, you can’t go wrong with a Crown Vic. In the 6 years I’ve owned it, I have spent less than $100/month in vehicle cost and all maintenance to date and I’ve hit all the common failures so far. It should be cheaper going forward.
