One of the best BMW's made. Just keep up the maintenance.
Now that my e39 is almost 18 years old, I'm proud to say this car had been a blast to drive. At just over 140k, more regular maintenance is required. 7k in repairs just this year. It's to be expected for a car this age. I wouldn't trade her for any other car. She's still very fast, quite on the road and moves me and the kids around with ease. Take care of a car and it'll take care of you.

Pros
Fun to drive. 22 average MPG. Still looks very classy ever after 18 years.

Cons
BMW cost to maintain

A driver's car
Once Upon a Time BMW was built for enthusiast, not to compete with Mercedes for high-end luxury cars. I started with my first BMW in 1970 and my 2000 528i stick will probably be my last. I love it but I'm reaching the point where it's not wise for me to drive

Pros
Nimble and easy to drive whether it's on an interstate, a winding backcountry Mountain Road, or downtown Denver. Everyone always feel safe and comfortable in the car

Cons
Not cheap to maintain, although worth every penny

2000 BMW 528i
My second Bimmer. I also have an E46 323i, which I love. But my E39 5 series is my favorite! It's more comfortable and built tougher than the 3series.

Pros
Heated seats, 5 speed manual, comfortable ride, quiet ride, roomy, great performance

Cons
Plastic parts in cooling system will eventually become brittle and break.
