Decent car, but horrible ownership experience
I chose the G70 over BMW due to the accolades, 10yr warranty, and advertised valet and loaner service. Bottom line is that my experience with the dealerships has been horrible. Despite being certified Genesis facilities, they're just Hyundai dealerships who treat Genesis customers the same as Accent owners. With less than 2000 miles on the car, my seat motor failed. Took two weeks to get an appointment which was confirmed. Upon my arrival I was told that they had to reschedule because their Genesis tech left early. Next available appt was three weeks. I arrived again only to be told that they didnt offer loaners and had no idea about that perk. After some haggling with the manager, they agreed to give me a crappy rental vehicle. After having my car all day, I returned to pick it up only to be told that they had the wrong part and none were in the system. They had to call HQ and reschedule. They took the seat out of the car and put it back in while scratching my interior. After pointing it out, they denied doing it and blamed me. After a month, they ended up ordering a new seat which again was incorrect version. I gave up. I also asked them to check the wheel balance due to a wobble at 60 mph. They refused because they said the car drove fine.
I took the car to a further away dealership hoping for better experience. This time was for the first oil change and to check the wheel balance. Again, no loaner and no valet. They laughed at the notion and told me that I should have bought a luxury vehicle if I wanted that. I reminded the manager that Genesis is a luxury brand and comes with those services. Again, he said nope, we dont do that here. This was a Genesis certified dealership. So, I waited in the crappy guest area. This dealer did find two wheels out of balance. They also changed the oil. Unfortunately the invoice showed that they used conventional oil that didnt meet the Genesis spec for ACEA B5 or above. The G70 3.3T comes from the factory with full synthetic. The dealership refused to change the oil again and noted that they use the same oil in all the Hyundais and that I would need to pay extra for synthetic. I also noticed that one of my wheels was curbed and touched up with paint. After complaining to the manager, they denied doing it and blamed me saying that I was trying to pull a fast one. They finally agreed to send the wheel at reduced price to a wheel repair shop in two weeks. I ended up changing the oil myself to the proper type and took the wheel to them to repair. After having the wheel all day, they called tontwll me that the shop was unable to repair the wheel due to a coating technology they didnt use. Also, the car still had a slight wobble at speed.
I called several other dealerships up to 200 miles away to ask about the oil and they were all either confused about Genesis cars, did not use the recommended oil type, or flatly refused to acknowledge the manufacturers specification.
I now maintain the car myself due to the poor customer service, lack of technical expertise at the dealerships, and lack of loaners or valet service provided as advertised.
Due to low sales volume, there is no incentive for dealerships to invest in stand alone dealerships, the Genesis perks, or the brand in general. The first dealership was right, if you want the perks, buy an establishrd, real luxury brand vehicle.
I filed several complaints with Genesis corporate that went nowhere. Customer service indicated that they really cant force the private dealerships to abide by the Genesis rules.
Genesis forum users are starting to experience transmission failures. My car is starting to display some of the same symptoms of hard shifting, burning smell, and random gear changes. Also, my door has weld slag under the paint on the door panel and inside A pillar.
