Great features ruined by some incredibly ill-conceived drive issues
I had a 2015 G80 all-wheel drive that my wife and I loved. It was one of my very favorite cars of all time. And at 76 years of age, I have owned at least 50 of them.
I wish, (and thought I would) feel the same way about my 2025 all-wheel drive G70. And I do prefer the smaller size. Unfortunately the G70 has been a significant disappointment.
Not because of comfort (it's good). Not because of basic drivability (also good). But there's a huge Achilles' heel which is the result of Genesis over-doing/over-thinking safety features that make it incredibly irritating and frustrating to drive more than about 30 miles. On a drive of about 200 miles there was an audible ding-type tone that sounded along with a dashboard pop-up message of "Consider Taking a Break" that made the drive quite tedious as that pop-up and tone went off twelve times in that 200 miles. And I was driving carefully. Staying in my Interstate lane. Not speeding. Generally keeping both hands on the steering wheel, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes you just gotta sneeze. Or scratch. Or something.
So after that experience I went to the Dealer to get a fix for the issue. Unfortunately, there ISN'T one. Best thing they could recommend was to use cruise control (which I usually do anyway) AND lane control. But lane control is a whole other frustrating and irritating issue because if you don't signal for a lane change, for example, (even if there is only one other car in sight) when you cross a lane white line, the steering wheel vibrates. Not violently. But definitely not gently. So no matter what I do (even a short trip) I know it will be a FRUSTRATING drive. Fortunately, we do have a Honda that is in very good shape. And it is NOT FRUSTRATING to drive. And our Lease will be over in two years. And that will be our last Genesis.
