2018 Elantra GT
The Elantra GT is the entry-level 5-door hatchback. The interior is spacious, holding a full-size adult bicycle with the rear seat "down", without removing a wheel. Overall quality of the interior is good, with a look that's pleasing and comfortable. Performance of the 2-liter 4-cylinder engine is athletic and quick. I appreciate that the engine is not turbo-charged or supercharged. The 6-speed automatic transmission is responsive with quick up- or downshifts through the operating range. Blip the throttle under load, and the exhaust "barks" bringing on a smile. In-town driving is normally 28-to-30 mpg. Trip mpg's are 35 or higher. The car has standard 17-inch radials, which result in a comfortable combination of road feel and responsiveness.
Fit and finish both inside and out are spot on. Driver controls remind me of the no-nonsense, highly legible ones normally found in BMW's and the like. The Hyundai's control binnacle is coordinated and understandable, with easy to use coupling with my Apple phone through Apple Car Play. And what other brands, at any cost, come with a 100,000 mile or 10-year warranty? Probably none.
In my opinion, this "entry level" hatchback is a classic in its simplicity and design. I look forward to driving it every time out.
