My Blue Baby

This is my "Sunday Car" Have had 1.5 yr and only has 5000 miles on it. I love this car. Always park way out there so it won't get dinged and such. I love all the features it has. Connects up to my apple phone and can do just about anything. The only things I miss on my Ioniq is there is no rear window wipers and I do not have a CD player in the car. But I can get Pandora with my phone hooked up. Navigation through the phone. Bluetooth for all calls in or out. Wonderful car. I am really enjoying it.

Sensors are very sensitive

Very sensitive sensors, gas mileage varies with the weather and the roads. Love the quickness. I'm keeping her (royal diamond) ? save so much money. I brag about her constantly. She is so sweet and fun.

Economical

Love the car. But will just point out negative. Front seats should be all power. Hands must be thin to reach power seat controls. Disappointed had to pay $150 for trunk cover. VERY SAD. Always recommending people to buy this car.

awesome mileage in the warm weather

Awesome gas mileage ~55-57 mpg during the warmer months. Bought in June. Was disappointed in winter when I only got about 43-45 (I know, don't feel sorry for me!). Kind of odd not having a spare tire (better mpg that way) and that's ok with 5 year roadside assistance. But after that? Have to use AAA and the "fix-a flat" kit they now give you. Car has pretty good pickup and love the sport mode from the dual clutch which allows me to zip out into traffic without fear of hesitation as some hybrids seem to do. However there is a little hesitation when stopping and starting without time in between. Meaning I stop at a traffic light and if the light turns green while I am stopping, the car does not get going right away. Smooth roads are great but get on a rough road (I drive into Baltimore City daily), the car shows you all the bumps. Could be a little smoother ride. Also VERY loud annoying noises happen when driving on the highway with the windows open - especially the back ones. Wind noise is overwhelming. Roomy fold down seats are handy for transporting large items. I HATE that I cannot open the trunk with the remote! I don't understand the function of the fob button if it doesn't open the back hatch. Not much knowledge at the dealership about Ioniqs so I had to ready the manual to learn. Not sure why I cannot have the numerical MPG readout on the speedometer - only available in kilometers. Can get MPG in another display but not where I would expect to get it. Suggestion: create a video tutorial for new owners. Very disappointed that I could not remote start this car. I was told I could when I bought it. Had to PAY though to join BlueLink. But when I called, they told me my car was not eligible for this service. Salesperson should really have known that. Super disappointed since I had that in my previous car. Heated seats kind of make up for it...Also had a lengthy "campaign" (not a recall) which took my car out of commission for 5 WEEKS since Hyundai did not have the parts available. Waited over a week for the dealership to provide me with a loaner car (they seriously suggested I could get a rental and they would pay for about 75% of the cost!). Only found out by coming in for my first routine maintenance - NO letters, NO emails, NO phone calls to contact me about this potentially dangerous issue. So dangerous, even though they did not have the parts, they advised me NOT to take my car home; that I had to leave it there until they got the parts. If it was that dangerous, someone surely should have contacted me!!! Emailed, sent fax, sent letters to service dept and headquarters. All I got was basically, "Sorry".

Last car for me

The MPG is as advertised and can get 55-58 city driving with a light foot and not many stop sign or traffic lights. I have gotten up to 63 MPG On the freeway from Anaheim to San Diego several times. Lots of road noise.

Great mileage

The car has taken some getting used to. It is my first hybrid. But the ride is solid and quiet and the mileage is spectacular! Starting and parallel parking can be exciting as power at low speeds is a little unpredictable.

Very comfortable for a hybrid

This is the nicest and most comfortable of the "economy" hybrids I've driven. It gets great gas milage. Iv'e had a few repairs requireing a rental--one was 5 weeks because the part had to be shipped from Korea!

Lots of options, not so good performance

Luxury car features, good (not as good as advertised) economy, but basically it is a car for fast and safe commute! In this area there is more to do. I'm an older guy, probably younger ones expecting even more speed and acceleration, especially hard if you want to get closer to the advertised miles/gallon numbers. Also I am living in south, no challenges of weather reflected in this note.

I travel many miles each day so the Hyundai ioniq is really good for me. I average between 56-59 miles per gallon. It definitely runs better on mid grade gas. It's smaller than any other car I've owned and never owned a hatch back. Overall I really like it. Great little work car.

2017 Ioniq

Overall we are pleased with our 2017 Ioniq. The mpg is amazing. We use primarily as a daily commuter but also for longer trips. Road noise and initial acceleration are the only real issues i have with it.

Small and economical. Good gas mileage. Just wish Hyundai could work out the check engine light issues. I am used to a bigger vehicle but in finding this one ok. The service department in dealership is good

Less than, but still good.

Did not expect to need a new transmission at less than 7,000 miles or that the mpg would decrease by 7 mpg after the 1st year. However, the vehicle still comfortably fufills my needs with good cargo space. Car handles well with comfortable ride.

I love my Ioniq

Hyundai should advise his vehicle more - it truly is a hidden gem! It gets great gas mileage- claims 59mpg HWY and I have gotten up to 70mpg!! Glad I made this purchase and will definitely buy again when the time comes but will splurge for the extras.

So Glad I Got it!

I could hardly be more satisfied with this car's performance and handling. Fuel economy is great although not as good as advertised. The only other complaint I have is that there were 2 recalls. Both of the recalls were handled well by the dealer.

Hyundai Ioniq hyrbrid info

I have a 2017 Ioniq and have been happy with the way it drives and have found it comfortable on long drives as well. I have only had the car for about 18 months, and I already have nearly 50k miles on it (I drive 3 days a week a round trip of nearly 200 miles to work). My model is the mid-range version, and it is well-equipped, and I have come to love the seat heaters (my first car with these) during cold New England winters! Performance is pretty dang good for a hybrid - I think it accelerates better than my sister's Prius, and the semiautomatic trans is quieter than her CVT. My only complaint with the car is that my gas mileage has dropped off. For about the first 6 months or so, I was getting nearly 600 miles on a tank of gas (54+ MPG). More recently, it is closer to 500 miles to the tank. Not sure why - my driving habits haven't changed. Still getting about 50 MPG, though, so I'm not too upset - it's more than 15 MPG better than my last car.

Ionia hybrid

My wife and I have owned a fully loaded 2017 Ioniq for the past 2 years. Both of us are well pleased with its performance over that period of time. We have gotten as good as 53.8 mpg, I’ve observed that the best gas mileage is obtained during warmer weather and at speeds of 60mph or less. My gas mileage is typically high 40’s in the summer and high 30’s to low 40’s in the winter. I’ve taken the Ioniq only to the dealer we purchased the car from, so that the service people there will get the most exposure to servicing a hybrid vehicle. We’ve had only 2 issues with this car in the first 43,000 miles. One cold, cold morning it didn’t shift right. This problem was never resolved and the the recall for heat problem on an electronic component. After Hyundai got the parts, this recall was addressed to my satisfaction. I’m fussy, being a retired electronics engineer! My one complaint about the Ionia is the road noise, which I think is a little higher than necessary. In summary I’d recommend the Hyundai hybrid, it’s nimble, quick, comfortable and fun to drive.

I researched hybrids over 7 months before I chose this make and model.

I love the sporty look and safety features. I also love the longer warranty (even paid $$$ more for total, extended coverage). Mileage was at the top of my wish list, and for the most part, it has been fulfilled. However, I have never liked the 'split' rear window idea. It's distracting and causes a "blind spot." I see in the 2019 IONIQ, this has been changed..and for the better...although, a rear window windshield wiper would be very advantageous. *I also was not told, and had no idea, that my vehicle "did not" come with a spare tire making it necessary to call & pay for a tow truck in the even of severe tire damage (not to mention that inconvenience). But for the money, and the things I requested and required; this was a "no brainer." Mission accomplished!

Can't argue with with the MPG or quality!

I love the 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty! 5-star safety. I love the tight body lines, gas mileage over 600 miles for an 11-gallon tank, beautiful blue-lit interior and large HD screen and camera. It's low clearance has been troublesome, as I've been in a van for 20 years, and potholes have ruined 3 tires, and I've scraped my hubcaps and bumpers on curbs and parking blocks. It needs a front camera because it is so low. I love the side-object detection system. The seats are very comfortable. The car is roomy and stylish and sporty. It has excellent pickup and stability at every speed. It makes hairpin turns and is very maneuverable. It does make weird airplane sounds and a wobbling sound when driving (maybe the rear differential, maybe a bulge in a tire?). I hear a cable sound when breaking and break noises when it's wet. Sometimes the breaks seem dicy when wet. The sound system is good. The styling is great. The quality and thought put into design and materials is excellent. Oh, a couple of bad things: The black plastic door trim faded in the first few months and the pinstripes came off after a few months of soft car washes (no brush), but the dealer (God bless Thayer) removed the stripes and re-pinstriped the car to my satisfaction! Did I say that I love taking pictures of my dash reporting that I'm getting 90 MPG, or 74 MPG, or 60? Mostly it gets 50 MPG, which drops to 40 when it's bitter cold and can drop to 35 when it's way below zero! Still, I got 44 MPG loaded up with teenage boys and 16 heavy bowling balls on a trek across Michigan for a tournament. Can't complain. It's efficient, fun, and comfortable, is loaded with technology, and it didn't cost a fortune. Perfect! With Michigan roads and careless people, I don't want to pay any more than is necessary for respectable transportation. This car checks all of my boxes, and it pays for itself with gas savings! If it does get dinged or bent, I won't be as heartbroken as I would be if I spent way more. It's practical, sporty, powerful, economical, and safe! What's not to love?

Almost Perfect.

The Ioniq has been a great car. The only flaws are the noise level inside the car is a little higher than expected when driving on the freeway. The second flaw is the lack of a spare tire. Both times the car had a flat the tire was cut in the sidewall from road debris. You can't fix that with a can of flat fix.
