I attempted to contact Mr. Amen and was unable to get in touch. His vehicle came in for inspection on May 5, 2022. At that time his parking brake was not functional at all.
According to state law 75 Pa.C.S. §4502 Subchaper F 175.94 (c) The parking brake system shall be adequate to hold the vehicle on a surface free from ice or snow on a 20% grade with the vehicle in neutral.
I called Mr. Amen to inform him of this as well as his torn wiper blades which also fail inspection. He stated at the time that he never uses his parking brake. While I understand where he is coming from, as a licensed inspection mechanic and inspection station, we must follow the law regardless of the customers use of the vehicle/features. We were able to disassemle his parking brack mechanism and free it up with no parts replacement needed, which was a savings of over $150. We also gave Mr. Amen a free set of wiper blades as well as 5% off his total bill.
