Still An Excellent Ride
I purchased this vehicle in 2015 after a long period of research and test drives. My car is Montecito Blue, a color only available that year and the trim level included the Ultimate trim package with all-wheel drive. After 9 years of ownership, my Genesis still looks great to me, even though I have to park it outside in a forested area. Winters here have not always been mild. Because we own 3 vehicles and I'm now retired and not commuting daily, the odometer now reads 48,700+ miles. I'll be changing my tires this year before winter begins - just in case. My car is fitted with Michelin 18" 60 profile tires, and I'll continue with that brand and size. The only problems I've had with this car have been caused by weather and circumstance. The ride is excellent and extremely comfortable over longer drives. 19" tires might have made for a sportier ride at the cost of fuel efficiency and quietness. My return home from the dealership where I purchased was over 400 miles. Fuel efficiency was over 27 mpg with the 3.8L engine/8 speed automatic transmission and the ride was comparable to a BMW 740iL I'd owned previously - smooth and quiet with good road manners. Details I've added to my Genesis include Weathertech floor mats, color-matched wheels, solar guard window tint, and LED turn front signal light bulbs. I use synthetic oil on this car and the cost is far outweighed by the returned engine smoothness and fuel efficiency. My Genesis has always been a pleasure to drive and I have never regretted my purchase. In 2016, Hyundai spun off the Genesis as an independent brand. My car is comparable to the G80 in that brand line-up, though a new Sport model choice is available in the line-up with a 3.3L turbo V-6 engine.
Of course, no car is perfect. My Genesis isn't the sportiest ride I've owned and there have been some glitches. The rubber is aging and I'm now having to budget for some paint and interior maintenance, a result of having to park outside. I'll be modifying the ivory-colored interior to add black suede leather seating inserts and getting the paint sealant refreshed.
If I were buying a Genesis today, I'd opt for a GV-80 SUV, which is mechanically quiet similar to my car but a bit more useable for touring. Neither my wife nor I travel lightly and more luggage space would be available at no cost in ride quality.
