Love this car
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Owner Feedback
I absolutely love this car. The steering wheel and the buttons are perfect. I love the customizable sound options and all the different settings I can play with. I use the paddle shifters every single day—both to change the regenerative braking levels and to simulate gear shifts, which is incredibly fun. I will never buy an EV without paddle shifters I use them everyday.
Coming from a Hyundai Veloster N and a Subaru BRZ, I can confidently say this car is just as fun, if not more fun, than my Veloster. While I do miss the smaller footprint of the Veloster, we just don't have many options for smaller cars in the US right now. As my first EV, the Ioniq 5 N has met and exceeded all of my expectations.
The Seats
The cooled seats are amazing, and I love the seats in general. I don’t mind that they are manually adjustable since they are easy to move, and the leather wrapping around the edges looks great.
I also think Hyundai made the right call with the material choice here. Putting Alcantara or suede on a headrest makes no sense to me—with all the hair gel and hair products people use, that’s just asking for a stained, ruined mess. Suede only belongs where your back and bottom sit to keep you planted. "Suede" doesn't automatically equal "sporty" to me; it just means it's harder to clean. For example, the Genesis GV60 Magma has all-suede seats, which I think is a mistake.
The Ioniq 5 N seats are almost perfect—I just really wish they had adjustable lumbar support, which the GV60 Magma does have.
Areas for Improvement
Most of the other things I would change have actually already been addressed in the newer Ioniq 6 N design, such as:
Physical buttons for the heated and cooled seats.
An upgraded Heads-Up Display (HUD).
An upgraded engine sounds.
Grievances
I love this car and look forward to driving it every single day. That said, there are two downsides:
Tire Wear: The tires wear down incredibly quickly. Bad for budget if you actually drive the car.
Winter Wheel Chatter: In the winter, if you lock out the steering wheel fully, the tires make a loud, shuddering sound as you turn. I know this is a known Ackerman effect issue, but it's still annoying to experience.
Key Separate from Key Fob: Please just put the key in the key fob, it would make the key fob feel more premium, and less likely to lose the actually keep it falls out of that plastic sleeve every day. (Also the Black fob looks so much better then the silver that scratches up so quickly. )
