Bought this for my wife
We already have a new Genesis, so it is hard to make a fair comparison. The Genesis is an outstanding vehicle. The Veloster was bought because my wife's S10 Chevy is growing old, and we decided to park it and only use as needed. My wife loves the Veloster. It is easy to drive, easy to park, and adds a little fun along the way. The comfort is good for a small car. I would prefer to have more setting adjustments, however the seating is adequate and even has a nice power lumbar support. We got the turbo model. The seats in the turbo have large side bolsters which make it a little more difficult to get in and out for people old as my wife and I. Our young grandchildren can even ride in their car seats in the back. I would not buy this if I had lots of long trips to make as the ride quality is rough like a go cart. That is to be expected for a cheaper sporty little car. I think the price to fun, equipment, and use ratio makes it a good car.
There is a couple of issues that keep it from being excellent.
The hands free phone microphone doesn't seem to work well. People have a hard time hearing us when using hands free in this car whereas my Genesis works perfectly.
Another strange issue which I noticed on this car as well as another one similarly equipped which I test drove is a surge when you are first letting off the brake following a stop. This is a little disconcerting as it feels like you are going to take off. It is especially bothersome when there is a vehicle in front of you. It makes you feel as though you are going to jump forward into the car in front of you. After the initial surge, the car falls flat, and you really have to push on the throttle to get moving. When I park in my driveway and I have another vehicle in front of me, I really have to be careful letting off the brake as I roll to try and get close to the vehicle in front. I don't want to surge ahead and smash the vehicle. I really have to work the brake. This has taken some getting used to. I have not considered taking it back to the dealer for this issue because as I said, I drove another and it performed exactly the same.
