Hi Howard,
Thank you for reaching out. We completely understand your frustration—when you pay to get a hitch and harness installed, you just want your trailer lights to work safely and reliably.
We take our craftsmanship seriously, so we want to share exactly what was happening behind the scenes. Our team verified on our shop cameras and test logs that the first two wiring harnesses were sending correct electrical signals before they left our shop.
Because the lights failed about five minutes after you hooked up your trailer both times, we knew we weren't dealing with a simple installation error. In our experience, when a system breaks down permanently after a few minutes under load, it's caused by one of two things: a rare manufacturing defect inside the module, or a hidden short circuit in the trailer wiring. A short doesn't always blow a system right away; it can have a cumulative effect over time as components heat up on the road. This is why a quick check for a short at a trailer sales lot often misses the issue.
We had a clear plan to solve this for you at your next visit:
1) We were going to install a third harness from a completely different factory batch under the supervision of multiple technicians.
2) We planned to hook your vehicle up to a standard test trailer and drive it around for 15 minutes to see if we could force a failure.
If it worked properly with the test trailer but failed after plugging in your trailer, we would know for sure that your trailer had a hidden short. Our bench tests on the removed modules show they did fail completely after being plugged into your trailer, but because you chose to take the SUV to Lexus before we could do the road test, we never got to prove the exact root cause.
While the Lexus module might handle electrical resistance or shorts differently for now, we were fully prepared to see this through to the end for you. We truly regret that this experience was stressful, and we wish you the very best and safe travels on the road ahead.
Best regards,
Marcus
