Works well as an EV but we have had BlueLink software and dealer issue

Although the vehicle has done okay as an EV, we have encountered issues with the BlueLink software and dealer support. The BlueLink software is glitchy when working with digital keys (Hyundai has two different digital key standards). I have also encountered problems when using the BlueLink watch app. The dealer issues involve a dealership that was not responsive when we had an issue with the 12 volt battery not charging. With both the BlueLink issues and dealer issues, Hyundai tried to shift the blame to us instead of fixing the problems which appear common with on line research.

Ioniq 5 Review

I love the car. My issues with it are: (1) the stereo system is not what I would have expected when I paid the price for a limited with its Boze premium system; (2) Occasionally, something fails, like the side rear-view mirrors won't swing out when I unlock the car, or the parking brake won't let go (these only happen once a month or less often); (3) my biggest is the various alerts. The greatest safety feature you can offer is an undistracted driver. And the car will sometimes beep at me for no apparent reason while I am driving, and I have to quickly scan the screens to find out what the message is. There's sometimes no message. You should make a message section on the screens where always, without fail, the driver can find an explanation of the warning noise. Also, the lack of a rear window wiper is actually enough all by itself for us to not want to buy the vehicle at the end of our lease. We live in Oregon, it rains a lot,m and we need that.

ICCU Anxiety

This is the best car I have ever even driven let alone owned. Everything is excellent. But my wife wants to take my son in it to the zoo tomorrow and I am really worried about the ICCU. The faster that Hyundai/Kia comes clean on the issue and provides a fix for this the better. It is the #1 thing you need to be focused on.

Love the car, should have had a rear windshield wiper

I really find no faults with the vehicle, other than it should have always had a rear windshield wiper. The posterior of car actually increases the amount of road detritus swept up on the vehicle and rear window. Also the top deflector is designed so as to inhibit down-word airflow which would help clean the review window. Stupid design, but still great car.

Great Vehicle would be Fantastic with a Few Minor Improvements

Car has been excellent. Charges fast, is comfortable, and has lots of tec. Newer released cars now have a larger battery / more range and I wish it had a way for me to manually start the battery conditioning, event below 20% state of charge.

2023 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD

Overall I love this car, but it has one massive defect. The ICCU. When it failed it was off the road for over two months waiting for repair. It makes me not trust the car for long trips knowing that it may fail again, at any time, without warning. It has spoiled what would be a great ownership experience. The inconvenience of a rear window wiper cannot be overstated.

Vehicle Assessment

Vehicle is inconsistent. Have had two batteries go dead. Car had to be towed twice to dealer. Left without car. No loaner offered. Asks me to press power button to start on occasions. Charging connection does not slip into car as easily when it was new.

Overall the vehicle is very enjoyable and comfortable with its impressive acceleration and handling being key features. My biggest criticism is battery life in the winter, which is as much as 30% less capacity. A significant and unresolved issue with our car is the inconsistent operation of cabin heating in the winter. Approximately 1 out of 10 times when starting the vehicle, the heat will not come on or is significantly delayed. We have had this looked at multiple times, but due to the inconsistency of the problem, Hyundai is unable or unwilling to determine the problem. When you live in Minnesota, this is a significant problem.

Great, except... heater works intermittently; not good in cold weather

Overall I like the car. My wife and I each purchased one at the same time, and they're both performing similarly. The car handles well in almost all conditions for driving: Rough roads, wet pavement, snow-covered streets - you name it, and it seems to do a good job. Acceleration is very good (easy to get onto the highway without being concerned about getting up to speed in a reasonable time), handling is nice and smooth, the HDA is an interesting addition and works well, and the noise inside the cabin isn't bad (it could definitely be improved, but it's not annoying). It's comfortable inside (plenty of room), and the folding rear seats make transporting a breeze. The ability to use the car as a source of electricity (providing a standard household outlet with the optional plug) is a nice feature that I have used a couple of times when we lost power briefly at our house. There are two things that keep it from being stellar. 1. The heater works only intermittently; it is inconsistent and can't be replicated "on command" so both times I've taken it to the dealership for service to check out the heater, it worked. I have video showing the heat turned all the way up (82°) and you can see the steam coming from my breath from the cold air coming out of the vents. The 45+ minute drive to and from work is brutal when the heater isn't working at all (other than circulating the freezing cold air inside the cabin). 2. The collision detection system is "hit or miss" (no pun intended) - sometimes, it seems to be a bit too conservative when it senses other vehicles showing down or stopped ahead. I understand the concept of taking the more conservative approach - for safety - but it can also cause anxiety when it applies the brakes and you're not expecting it (and you have the vehicle under control). The first problem could be a deal-breaker for someone who lives in a cold weather state, and if it doesn't get resolved soon, I will definitely be letting people know that it's an issue that is more than bothersome - it makes driving uncomfortable and potentially even dangerous. The second problem is possibly just something that needs some tweaking, or alternatively, it would be nice to provide a way to either turn that feature off or on.
