This car would deserve 5 stars if the cruise control system were fixed

The Ioniq 5 is a fine car in almost all respects except for two leading issues: 1) the HVAC controls are poorly lit and located, making them difficult to see and adjust; 2) most importantly, the eye sensor-controlled cruise control system malfunctions almost continually, making the cruise control terribly annoying and virtually useless. Otherwise, the car drives beautifully, is comfortable (apart from slightly too-forward head rests) and quiet, and accepts rapid charging.

Love the car, bluelink dead from the lot

Car is great. Zero complaints. Everything as advertised besides the bluelink not working from the jump. Put in multiple services tickets and 2 responses in a 2 month period. Still doesn't work. Asked for updates and ignored. Not asking for the world here.

Wow, that's a Hyundai?

I've wanted an Ioniq 5 since they first released several years ago, and while I think the wait was worth it (bugs in the build have been worked out), I think it has also made me like the car even more because it lives up to my own hype. This is my first Hyundai, though my husband has owned a few and the build quality is fantastic. Everything feels intentional and well designed with quality materials. -The fact that the back vents are on the pillar by the door and it hits right at face when you recline the front seats back. -The moveable console is one of the best features, as well as the cavity for various things. I use it for my purse most often but we also use it for takeout or a small bag. -The back seats have their own recline instead of just one setting. -Heated and cooled seats -Pull up shades in the backseat windows -The full ceiling moon roof -All the seats are well bolstered but still comfortable. We've taken ours on a long trip (900 miles/17 hours in a single day) and we found it to be more comfortable than other cars we've owned that we have made the trip in (including a Subaru Outback). -The navigation is excellent and helps you find chargers when you need them, which includes auto priming the battery when the weather is cooler. -This car is so fast and since it's an EV there is only road noise. It's effortless getting up to speed. -The camera systems for parking are great and I love having the option to have it park for you-though the cameras and sensors make it super easy for anyone to park it themself. -The self-driving has really improved since 2018 (when my husband had his Sonata). There is no drifting from one side to the other, which often made me carsick, and I trust it to sense the cars around me to brake adequately even if it's difficult for me to gauge that. It's very helpful in busy highway traffic, low visibility conditions like twilight or night rain since it uses lidar to "see". We've had many compliments on this vehicle, and other Hyundai's we've owned. People are impressed with the classy interiors and build quality, often uttering the phrase, "Wow, that's a Hyundai?" Many have said they haven't been aware of Hyundai as a brand for many years. The only con I can think of is that I was unable to get a fun color; I got white because that's what they had but I would have loved blue, green or purple because I'm so sick of these monochrome color choices. My husband wishes the ride height was a bit higher but it's also not that big of a deal.

First EV and it has been great so far. Only complaint so far is the climate controls are very hard to impossible to read in full sun. Should be white instead of blue print.

Drives very nice, quick, smooth, quiet, nice interior

I compared the 2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited AWD and the 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium AWD. They cost about the same. I chose the Ioniq, and love the car. It greatly exceeded my expectations. Tesla advantages: - Full self-driving. - More advanced software overall. - Possible better efficiency. Ioniq advantages: - Much nicer drive, smooth, quiet. This was my main deciding factor. - Nicer interior. - Physical buttons, heads-up display. For both Tesla and Ioniq, the driver needs to pay attention to the road, so at the end, there is not that much advantage of Tesla FSD over the pedestrian approach that Ioniq offers.

Disappointing details

I had the ioniq 6 before the ioniq 5, and I think the 6 is a much better car than the 5. Being tall 6 feet and 3, i was much more comfortable driving in the 6 because the control panel with start/stop button, AC control etc was higher and far from my knee, while in the 5 i have very little room because my knee has to go between the corner of the control panel and that of the separator in between the front seats; considering also that the arm rest on the right i higher too, the only possible solution i could find was to push back the arm rest completely. Another little thing, I found very useful on the 6 the button that closes the trunk and locks the car, and it’s annoying that there is not in the new 5. Another annoying thing is that the back seats, after they were taken down to increase the space in the trunk, stop their run to back up way too early, when they are still not completely open. Of course one can fix it further, but why should that be the case? In the 6 they go back all the way. Finally, in the 6 the plug allowed to use multiple plugs without having to plug the converter, while now i have to plug a converter too. Since there’s no tesla chargers were i live or where i work, it’s pretty annoying. The only plus the 5 has over the 6 is the battery and the price.

Best car I've ever driven, and I've driven many.

Fun, quiet and well put together. The brakes, especially in reverse, are a bit sticky. The cruise control is overly complicated and the climate control is close to the volume nob and if you barely brush against it it turns on. Plus the climate system itself is hard to read, so I usually pull over to adjust. All said though I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Glad I made the switch to an EV

I have been thinking about going to an EV for a few years now. After my son and my brother both bought an EV, I decided to pull the trigger and I'm glad I did! It is quiet, nicely appointed on the inside, efficient, and I don't ever have to pump gas again!

Great car with 1 major issue

Awesome car except for the ongoing problem of dependability with ICCU unit . This problem should have been resolved by now . It's know weak point for over 3 years & Hyundai can't seem to figure out how get it fixed . Does Hyundai really care about it customers ? Hard to say based on how they care . Hyundai is not very transparant & willing share why the ICCU part is still failing at a high rate , basically 10 to 15 % of the Ioniq 5 cars sold per year will have the ICCU fail & leave you stranded . Feel like you're driving a car that can stop working at any moment. Also, to make things worse the ICCU part is rarely in stock at your dealer , so you end waiting 4 to 8 weeks to get it replaced. Hyundai's inabilty to resolve this documented & know flaw doesn't inspire trust or confidence in build quality when you're looking to purchase a EV
