Transmission slippage

The vehicle has 54,000 miles on it. Sometimes when accelating, the engine races wirhout the car increasing speed for a couple of seconds, then the car goes back to normal operation.

Beautiful car but too many electronic problems

My Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a beautiful car but I've had several bad experiences with its electronics . Several trips to the dealership for badly diagnosed electronic hybrid related problems. It took 4 different trips to the dealer for them to finally fix a battery problem that left me stranded 3 times. The most recent problem was my transmission. My transmission broke after 67,000 miles . Very scary and dangerous experience when my transmission failed on the tollway in the fast lane at 75mph with other drivers behind me. I got the car towed to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a transmission problem with the electronics being completely fried. The service rep was great with me and got me in a courtesy vehicle but it took them the better part of 2 weeks to get a new transmission in and installed. I just don't have the same confidence driving it anymore as I have with previous cars that I have had. I still have my previous car as a backup A honda accord with 260,000 miles with the original transmission and original engine. Looking at trading in my Hyundai Sonata Hybrid as soon as I have the time. It's really too bad because I actually really like the car . Its a gorgeous car inside and out but these hybrid electronic problems are unacceptable.

Bought in Feb. 2017, with 21000 miles on it. So far have replaced tires, and main computer module. Not sure if I am happy with reliability.

Car over all review

Hyundai, over all performance is good. Issue is transmission. Within less then 50K miles we have to replace transmission. Good thing it was under warranty. I tool car few days a go for recall service. Technician performed 89 point inspection Found out engine oil is licking that is also covered under warranty. There are issues with this car but over all it runs great

2013 sonata hybrid

Car was great until first main problem 40 mpg consistently until following problem unable to start. After service milage has dropped to below 30 mpg. Results still out on fix since what they did MIGHT fix problem??

Great on gas but the overall driving performance could be better

I've only had this car for under 4 years and had to have the transmission and axle replaced. I was told by the Hyundai manager that 4 other vehicles had to be brought back for the same problem. He said the Hybrid system is a drain on the transmission causing it to malfunction/break down. I don't know if that is a problem with all hybrid vehicles, all Hyundai hybrids or just all Autonation Hyundai hybrids but I'm not as comfortable with my car anymore.

Second transmission 160k miles

Well, the first transmission went out at 95k miles. The second at 160k. Had the fluid on the first one serviced at the regular interval. Being paranoid had the fluid serviced at half the mileage Hyundai recommended on the 2nd transmission. Other than that no real complaints. Except one other time all the lights on the dashboard lit up, it started beeping and told me to pull over. The vehicle wouldn't go after that. It was some switch that needed to be replaced. I guess this happens every so many miles. Would be nice if there was a loud audible alarm instead of the vehicle. I would have given the vehicle 1 star. However, Hyundai picked up the cost of both transmissions. I am thankful for that. However, this makes me think that they know they have a problem with the transmissions.

Built Cheap, and horribly designed.

It is a very cheaply built car and has engineering problems galore. I'd avoid Hyundai for a car purchase. I know I will.

Poor performance

This car did not get even close to the gas mileage promised by Hyundai and I had quite a few problems with the car. I am so glad that I purchased the extended warranty.What I also learned about my car when I bumped a pole in my parking spot is that with a simple bumper dent you must replace the whole bumper to repair it.

To many things going wrong like the main computer, seat belt, rear seat heater etc. The build quality of the accessories is bad. Gas mileage is good. Performance is good. I would not buy another Hyundia.

Sonats

Liked this vehicle at first, even though I had crappy customer service all the way around with buying the car and the first service done. But have had multiple problems, such as the transmission failing and when having the break peddle replaced (which I think was completely unnecessary and don't trust most if their service techs) it wasn't done properly and my car broke down again shortly after because they forgot to put brake fluid in it. The car is comfortable and nice but hyundai seems to be unreliable and their customer service alone is enough to make me never buy from them again.

Hybrid rating

The transition time between electric and gas engine is getting incrementally longer, electric engine isn't strong enough to get you out of trouble as you pull into traffic. Since new my hybrid battery has never been full, it usually is in the 50% range. My 09 Sonata had real carpet however my 13 hybrid has what I call felt, really cheap. My 09 was made in made in U.S. the 13 was made in S. Korea, I don't know if this makes a difference. The gas mileage is very poor for a hybrid, I have owned other straight gas 4cyl that got better mileage.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

I really don’t think my opinion will be taken well at the dealership. I love the color and enjoy driving it. Like all the “bells and whistles”, but I should not be the owner of a hybrid. Too many issues during my ownership, often frustrated with the car. My personal opinion is hybrids are in the “baby stages” of development. So much to be improved on.

I will never buy Hyundai again

This vehicle should not be sold in California without proper warning regarding the MPG. I was lucky to get 32/35 mpg, in NC I get 41/42. The dealership, when I discussed this with them, would just say "it's common sense you aren't going to get that...they drive this car around a level track to get the mpg". Oh, forgive me...My fault. You told me it would get the same as a prius. They only cared about the sale. Don't even get me started on the service department. Window tint is bubbling, they broke a piece of the console putting my car back together (had to bring it in again to fix that), didn't do services they recommended and said they'd complete, threw away a part that cost thousands to order, I could go on forever. I hate this car, but the resale is so low it's not worth getting rid of it after I put $10,000 down on it.

2013 So at a Hybrid

I leased this vehicle in December of 2013 and had a three year lease. While driving on the freeway in April of 2015, my car started loose acceleration and eventually died. I barely made it to the side of the freeway before all power was lost. It was very scary as everyone around me was going 65+ mph and I had my children in the car. Hyundai was wonderful. They had my car towed, provided me with a rental car and replaced my engine, all at no cost. They had my car one month. However, I had my car back less than a week before it died again. Once again, Hyndai came and jumped the car a and inspected it. They say nothing is wrong with it but the car doesn't die for no reason. I commute 160+ miles a day round trip. I am almost to the point mileage wise where these issues will no longer be under warranty. I have opened a case with Cinsumer Affairs with Hyundai and am trying to turn my lease in early. Since I am so close to being out of warranty and this car is not owned by me, I don't want to be financially responsible when the next issue happens. I am hoping Hyundai does what is right and takes this lemon back.

Worst car ever

I've been a Hyundai customer for over 10 years, I have to say I hate my hybrid. Their is no power, you have to use the better grade in gas, and it only gets 32 miles per gallon over all. When it's supposed to get better then 32.
