Beauty to See

The new 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has all the bells and whistles. The first engine (bad) lasted appx 2,000 miles. On the second engine on a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, so the jury is still out on reliability and quality to see if was worth the money...so far so good.

I like the car We paid to much for it The finance manager said we had to pay Hyundai 6 month high interest rate before we could apply for an outside lower car loan to get the discount they were supposedly giving us on the last year price on the car we were buying All in all I FELT THEY WERE NOT AN HONEST COMPANY THAT COULD BE DEALT WITH.

In-town Runner

Great car for in and around town!!! So far not so great on the highway...stranded before on a trip over 600 miles. A new engine was needed on a brand new car with 2, 000 miles. So far second engine going strong with over 20,000 mile. Only other issue I had before was trying to come up a hill.

Good, but not great

Not my favorite but not the worst I've driven either - see the pros and cons Good lights, easy to use controls, decent sound system, good visibility, good tires A bit jerky after a full stop and mushy brakes were not my fave

Mileages

The mileage of my car is 31 miles per gallon. It has not got the mileage as advertised. Hybrid System Warning comes on while driving on freeway within one year. It took more than a month to replaced the transmission.

Hybrid System Shutdown

A great car with one exception. Several time the car shutdown while in traffic due to the hybrid system warning. This is especially dangerous on a congested highway at high speeds because it is not safe /easy to change lanes to pull off to the side of the road. The problem easily fixed by shutting off the engine and then restarting the engine.

2017 Sonata Hybrid

Overall, car is great. BUT, some things to note. I bought the car brand new. One running light would turn off when I turned the headlights on. I didn't discover that until the evening. Went to a dinner party and showed off my new possession to friends and they let me know a fog light wasn't' working... geez! I've had the car 17 months now and my trunk latch literally broke. I took my son to a two day college enrollment and went to get his luggage out and shut the trunk. The trunk would note shut! Luckily i had a bungee cord and was able to tie it down while went on with enrollment... geez! My dealership has been awesome on fixing the weak links in the car. So thankful for the warranty!!!

Quality between vehicles is inconsistent, I test drove several and the vehicle I chose has frayed steering wheel stitching and what seems to be missing right door anti-vibration panels or sound dampening.

Better as a Plug-In (PHEV)

With the plug-in version of this vehicle, I've been able to go without having to buy gas for over 6 months. However, range is a little lame - it only does about 25 miles, never the full 27 advertised. The interior design is lacking in a number of ways. For example the dash controls are less than intuitive and poorly placed.

2017 Sonata Hybrid

Perfectly adequate family car. Gets very good mileage - better than the Prius V I traded in. Fatiguing to drive because of the steering. I just took a 3000 mile road trip. Will try not to do that again. I am old and very stiff. I have a hard time getting in and out of the car. Except for the steering behavior, my wife is very happy with the car.

Sonata Hybrid - great car but poor service support

I enjoy driving my Sonata hybrid The interior design is well executed and easy to use and enjoy. The exterior is stylish and eye appealing. I am unhappy with the paint quality. I am experiencing a number of small pock marks on the hood. By year 3 I will likely need a new paint job. I have had several service issues related to the hybrid. Failure to start has occurred several times. After being stranded on freeway, the dealer service department was not helpful. Only after second "failure to start" incident did I learn online that this is a common problem with Hyundai hybrids. The disappointment was compounded by learning the underlying problem was on recall, but neither the manufacturer or dealer had alerted me -- even after being into service for regular maintenance and seeking help for my "non start" issue. Disappointed the dealer did not have my back in this situation.

I love the car, but I’m always at the dealership

I love my Sonata. I also am in the dealership more than I could have ever imagined. Under 80,000 I have had issues with the car failing to start, the check engine light (with no codes), failure of the active air flap system actuator, a jerky drivetrain, coolant and oil leak, and a engine replacement. It’s a beauty, but I don’t know if I’d buy another.

MPE is lacking

This vehicle started out getting and displaying 27 miles on a charge and has over the last 2.5 years degraded to 23 without a fix by Hyundai. I’ve tried to work with the dealership unsuccessfully. I’ll be content to just turn the lease in in May.

Hybrid Hyundai Sonata

Vehicle was great in beginning and then hit 100,000 miles and now is constantly in the shop. Dealership is fixing the error codes but they aren’t fixing the check engine light. Vehicle needs to be deemed a lemon. Read the forums before you buy. It will save you time and money. Lots of electrical issues.

sonata hybrid is over-rated

Since the moment I got this car its been a constant headache. In just under 4 years (30,000 miles) I have needed my radio replaced or repaired at least 8 times, I have had my transmission and the automatic braking system completely replaced. These MAJOR issues are unacceptable when you purchase a brand new car with the hope of not having to deal with issues that normally arise after a more significant number of miles. This is especially unacceptable when the company has overestimated the mileage on a hybrid vehicle that you paid additional money for just that reason AND continue to pay higher rates to repair a hybrid vehicle. I will never again purchase a new vehicle or a hybrid and may never again purchase a Hyundai even after owning 3. The one redeeming item is that its all been mostly covered under the great warranty and the service folks at fitzgerald auto mall are great.

Hybrid system malfunction

After a month the hybrid system took 2 weeks to get fixed at 5 month came back with the same problem they replaced the range sensor now it s been 400 miles no malfunctions codes appeared

First Hyundai I’ve owned and I will be a loyal customer!

I purchased the my 2017 Hyundai Sonata in October 2017. With about 3500 miles on it today, it is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I like the mileage I get with the Hyundai technology and the extra features that my “limited” version has built-in. Too many features to describe, but all can be seen online. Most importantly, the seats are comfortable and it’s got a really smooth and quiet ride – which is exactly what I was looking for. Great car!

Misleading BlueLink promotion

I received an email saying that my BlueLink service was complimentary for 3 years. However, I've only had the car for 6 months, and the service has been disconnected. Going to the Bluelink website, it tells me 3 years of the service would cost me over $600. Misleading!

Not what I thought.

If you're going to test drive this car, make sure you do it where the speed limits are around 45 mph to fully get the feel of the car while turning and accelerating. Don't make the same mistake I did.
