Hyundai Veloster

Very practical, comfortable and low maintenance car, with some good features such as the stereo and heated seats. I would eventually like to have an awd car with more power. Something a little more fun and exciting to drive. All in all though, the Veloster is a good car that stands out, looks good and is comfy. No real complaints here!

The turbo model is the way to go. Just don't expect much power or MPG

I purchased my Veloster turbo knowing quite well its not a race car. That being said i also feel the car lacks quite a bit of power for a car that is turbocharged and is not getting better than 24 MPG average city. This car seems to fall between an economy car and a hot hatch which while its awesome to fill a gap it leaves much to be desired.

Well it's average

It has no power, but has the looks a lot of ladies from all ages like, I get comments on the color, which is a really awesome color. But when your when your go from 350hp all wheel drive to, 138hp front wheel drive you feel the need to push your Flintstone to help get it moving if it moves. Just saying. But it's a cool "looking" car.

Veloster Review

After owning my Veloster now for almost four years this is what I've taken away so far. It's a great commuter offering great mpg. I purchased my Veloster new and the only issue I've had so far was excessive wind noise that the dealer couldn't fix. Both door seals were replaced and the noise continues. Other than that the Veloster has been trouble free. My biggest issues are that the base 1.6 is underpowered and buying new the depreciation is high. My suggestion is if you're looking into one don't buy new. There's plenty of low mileage cars at a good price.

Love the vehicle, hate the rim quality.

Great vehicle, everything about it is awesome, except for the rims and tires use. I live in Maine and pot holes are common. Well one pot hole with these time and they are instantly or of shape, I've had to fix all 4 time twice. Alley they wear through tires like crazy, I've owned this for 2 years and I've had to replace the tires twice. Not cool. Beyond that everything else is excellent. The sound system, the engine (though it's not as powerful as the Sonota 2.0) to the interior look; love it! Just fix the rims.

Love it, a little.

I do love the quirkiness, but everyone in the community is in agreement that the car should have had more power from the beginning. Looking forward to buying the new generation, contingent on power and suspension improvements.

Complaint

It's a bit frustrating that the drivers side window goes down with 1touch but doesn't go up with the same 1 touch. The other complaint is the same with locks-& unlocks.

Good Hyundai

It's a good little car. It could be faster, but it does get the job done. I own the base, manual version. Sometimes I wish I would have gone with the turbo but I'm okay with the one I chose for now...

2013 Veloster

I enjoy the car overall however there are several areas i would suggest improving. Add a spare tire, improve the transmission and have both front seats same . I was surprised of the trunk space and being able to load a cooler

Is ok

Is aight. The frame is thick so the clearing through the windows in the rear are small and hard to see through. The thickness of the frame however make me feel safe to flip my car over. The small passenger roos seats is cool because this way nobody wants to get in my car. Great for boppin heads on bumps.

Not what I expected or promised

I love the way the car looks and that it's a 6 speed manual but they really didn't think things through. Here are some examples: the passenger release lever was broken when i bought the car and took weeks to get it ordered and fixed, there's only 1 battery for this car, is over $100 and only lasted 3 years (I bought the car new). Being that the key fob is related to the battery I wasn't able to get into the hatch back when the battery died. It also doesn't have a release in the car for the hatch back. The car doesn't come with a spare tire and the tire kit they provide has a limited expiration date. In addition, the kit is good for a flat tire due to a leak or a nail but if you have a blow out it doesn't help at all. So, I bought a spare tire. When I bought the car they told me that the car doesn't come with one because it will add weight to the car and the gas miles will lower. (Come on! Really?) The manufacture tires that it comes with are crap. I had to replace them a year and a half after I bought the car. Unfortunately, I bought the same brand and had to replace them within 2 years too. So, the third time I bought top of the line and they're doing pretty well (spent an arm and a leg but it's been worth it). 3 speakers blew out in 3 years, one of which was within the first year of buying the car. So, this car has nickle and dimed me for the 3 of the 5 years that I've had it. I'm hoping it lasts as long as my Honda Civic. I had my Civic for 10 years and sold it with 250,000 miles on it. It's still running! This will be my last Hyundai.

Sporty but weak

I've had a veloster turbo sense 2013 but was very disappointed with the engine after owning it for a few years. A 1.6l comes under the hood with an optional turbo addition. Anything under a 2.0 is garbage to put in a car. The veloster is awesome looking with great handling but is extreamly underpowered for it to be a turbo addition. There are alot ot unhealthy shortcuts under the hood I've learned about and found thats why it's a 10 year 100k warranty. To get this car moving you really have to floor it and drive it hard to survive the highway or traffic. This puts alot ot stress on this underpowered engine and it fails. Mine failed at 66k. The veloster is a fuel efficient car but needs more power to make it better. The 3 door design is kinda annoying at first but is different. It's a very sporty hatchback but as stated before.... a 1.6 is useless and should never be used. I look forward to see the N veloster and what it can do

Love the style and the features. The hands free phone feature and access to other features on the steering wheel is convenient. But the ride Is not comfortable. You feel every bump of the road. It’s feels like the car is falling apart when you hit a bump or hole in the road.

Cute car. Poor quality materials.

I love the look and size of my Veloster that I purchased new in 2013. But, there is always something needed maintenance- clips breaking, trim paint chippping, loose connections And hate the dual clutch. Those paddles are stupid& useless

Fun Looking but drives like a grocery getter

Let me be clear: I really like this car. I just really wanted to like it more. It’s eye-catching (though the turbo front end is immensely more aggressive looking), it’s more spacious that it initially appears, and people are always intrigued with its 3-door design. The Tech and Style packages are a nice step up, and even the Sound system isn’t bad. Nice. But. You’d think something named Veloster would have a bit more....velocity. The little 1.6l, 4-hamster grocery getter beneath the hood barely puts out 150hp, and in those instances where quick acceleration could mean the difference between life and death, you may want to be wearing clean undies and a nice suit.

Premature Failure

All in all, my Veloster has performed up to expectations. It did not come with a spare tire, but a pump kit that was supposed to repair any flat. It would be useless for a failure in the tire sidewall, which I have experienced in the past. I bought a emergency spare & wheel. Infrequently it shifts so hard from park to drive or reverse that I think the transmission will fall out, but this seems very infrequent. I'm living with it..
