1997 Chrysler Town & Country LXi AWD
This is one of two model years that Chrysler offered its fabled minivan with All Wheel Drive. I bought it perhaps 10 years ago from a private owner, neither one of us realizing how unusual this vehicle is. It was very clean and well-maintained for its age! I'm keeping it in the hope of restoring it sometime in the next few years. The LXi has a very comfortable, stable ride and an impressive Infinity sound system. It is the first vehicle I've owned that has 4 wheel disc brakes (Don't laugh! There are STILL a lot of new cars with rear drums!) Yes one can feel the difference. The biggest drawback is that the 3.8L narrow block engine feels a little under powered. However, NASCAR isn't yet racing minivans.
I sometimes turn the radio off in order to listen to transmission run through all four speeds. Usually a transmission sound is a low-to-high whine in 1st gear. The T & C actually sounds high-to-low before shifting to second.
