Decent EV with few quirks

I was super impressed with all the online reviews and finally went out and got one for myself. I was definetely great to begin with runs very smooth and comforatable but as I have owned it for an year now, I can definitely say they are few things to watchout for. One of the biggest thing was, it ran into a battery related issue and I needed to be towed to the showroom. Luckly, Saw the warning as I was about to head to office and was barely 100 feet away from my home and returned back. There was a ICM or some component that needed replacement and its probably a common complaint on these EVs. It took them 20 days or so to fix it and return me the car. The hudai customer service was excellent as expected. One more item is when we reverse the car, the camera has a lag and you will not be able to trust it that much and the excellator tends to overspeed and you can run into accidents if you are reversing on a slope or you are in tighter corners. The car also is jumpy at times with the accelartion and the angle of turn is little less compared to other cars. full turns are more tighter and tend to be a bit hard if you are in tight corners.

Great EV with a Few Areas to Improve

I've been very happy with my IONIQ 5 overall. It's comfortable, quiet, spacious, and the fast charging is excellent. The ride quality and technology make it a pleasure to drive. My only complaints are that the wireless charger gets quite hot and heats up my phone, I wish ventilated seats were available since the leather seats can get very hot in the summer, and Android Auto occasionally has minor glitches. Aside from these small issues, it's an excellent vehicle that I would recommend.

Unreliable

Disappointed that I’ve had 2 failures that caused the vehicle to require towing. The car has less than 9000 miles and has had two major failures. First the charging control module failed and left me stranded on the interstate when I was taking my wife to the hospital. Second was a failure of the 12 volt battery. Again the car was undriveable. As a result, I do not feel comfortable taking the car on a longer drive. Additionally, the lane assist is really only useful on well marked interstate highways and similar. Otherwise, the lane assist s actually too dangerous and unreliable. And if it’s raining, then the system is worthless on all roads.

Poor battery life

This car drains the standard 12 volt battery while charging overnight in our garage. This has happened 3 times and we have had to call to have it jump started. The AAA representative who came to start the car said they had seen this issue often with Ioniq 5. We are taking it in to our service center to see if they can find out why this continues. You should know that it is a huge inconvenience for us.

Great car with one flaw

I love most things about this car, but to no one’s surprise, the ICCU issue remains a big flaw. It died in month nine, and while it got fixed, Hyundai needs to address this problem since who knows if it will fail again and how many people may be injured if it does under different circumstances. FIX IT

If I were to be granted additional wishes it would be for longer range and self driving. But with plenty of chargers available and the drivability that it has it is keeping me smiling.

It’s okay

I was quite happy with my Ioniq 5 during the first half of my lease. The car has been pretty convenient and performs well. Recently, however, I started experiencing issues with the charging functionality and the mobile app. When I asked the service team to look into this during my last routine service, they told me I had to schedule a separate diagnostic appointment with a $260 copay. This was really frustrating. They completely failed to address my concerns while the car was already in the shop and instead asked for an extra fee and time just to take a look. I am also dealing with a faulty wiper fluid sensor. The container is completely full, but the app constantly sends false notifications saying it is empty. When I asked the service team to check this, I was given the exact same answer. It is deeply disappointing that I wasted half a workday bringing my car in, only to have the team refuse to do a basic check on these issues. I am not going to spend more of my time or money scheduling another appointment. I will simply finish out my current lease term, but this experience has definitely made me reconsider whether I will lease another vehicle from Hyundai in the future.
