Love my Kona EV

This is my second three year lease of the Kona EV. Good quality car. Would like it to be more sturdy when driving over bumps and dirt roads. And increase range to 400 miles would be great!!

Love this car. Good range. Responsive.

This is my second Kona EV. I had an accident in the first and I wanted the same car. If I could have afforded it I would have gone with the ionic 5 but this car was a good compromise. I do wish I'd gotten the next level up though as it has some features that I am missing in this one. Over all I love owning an EV. I've had this one for two years and had one service, which was free and just a tire rotation. If you are coming from the gas world you will be very happy with the lack of maintenance. The range is good though I find the miles listed are not completely accurate. For example I regularly make a trip to see my family which is a roundtrip total of 154 miles. The range given when I start is about 300mi. I get back with approximately 80miles of range listed. So there's a difference there of about 66 miles (give or take short drives while there visiting, maybe 5 miles or so tops). If I was taking a road trip I would plan my stops accordingly.

A Starter with some features

Hyundai NA (HBA) was running an ad when we were shopping EV’s January 2024. Besides the good looking ad, there was 250kwh of free charging on Electrify America (EA) network. This attracted us not only the free charging but the pricing strategy from HNA. Overall the buying experience was good from the dealer, the free charging was setup, and managed to use it twice. Then without notice the charging was taken away. Calls to HNA and EA were met with denial. I would caution any buyer if HNA offers a seemingly bait and switch tactic to attract buyers. There also a reason the price point can be made with omission of options.

I am having several issues with the vehicle. The speedometer blanks out, the navigation system randomly turns off, the car has stopped in the middle of the freeway early morning during gusty winds

Best Car I've Ever Owned

I have never been happier with a car purchase than I am with my Kona EV. Every issue that has arisen has been the tiniest of complaints (e.g., I wish the driver's seat slid back an extra inch or two for my legs, and I wish it had automatic walk-away locks) that really don't take away any of the joy I have in owning and driving this vehicle. It handles like a dream, quick, responsive, and fits 4 full-sized adults comfortably.

Our second Kona

There isn't much about this vehicle I don't like. Decent range (although our 2021 had better range). It's comfortable. Nice to drive. And great safety features. We've had issues with the app and Bluelink. And I wish there was an actual storage box under the middle arm rest and not just empty space.

First experience with an electric car (so I can't compare to others)

As with all new cars, this one does not accomodate a normal upright seated posture; they are all only geared for severe slouching. I have to use lumbar supports, in addition to the "lumbar cushion" in the chair (doesn't get anywhere close to my lumbar area). If you don't slouch, you already have encountered this problem. The most notable bad thing about the car, though, is that the rear view camera does not automatically go off when the car is put in drive, and if a car is approaching you from behind, it will BRAKE and potentially result in an accident. My understanding is that this is not specific to this vehicle, but it is a DRAMATIC safety error. I have mentioned it at the dealer but I doubt they even mentioned it to the manufacturer.

Kona Electric Review

Excellent family car for local use. I have low mileage driving distance. Able to charge the car at home with 110 V for 10 hours twice a week. A 220 v outlet was installed in garage and now I only need 3-4 hours per week as charge time.

In for repairs often

Have had countless problems. Dealer has been unable to fix them, then tech support recommended a solution and then we waited for parts for weeks. Also, previous version had more standard features (heads up display, auto wipers, etc.) which the newer version does not offer. Overall not impressed or pleased.

I absolutely hate this car.

This car has always given me problems I can’t even go anywhere this car. It has stopped on me multiple times and Hyundai is willing to put my daughter and I in harms way. I will never be a Hyundai customer again

Very positive experience.

I love the car. The only two negatives I had were taken care of with recalls: 1. The 12V battery dying because of the multi-function keyboard and the month when the Blue link didn't work and I couldn't determine when I needed to stop on looking trips
