A great EV with safety features hard to find

This has been my first EV experience. I use the Ioniq 5 for my 15-mile commute to work and general running around town. I do not take it out of town because the EV charging infrastructure system was never built out in the Midwest, where I live. Charging the car in the summer is fast for an EV (50% to 80% in 10 minutes or less). But winter is another story - I use the battery preconditioning feature 30+ minutes before charging, and it still takes a long time (50% to 80% in 30+ minutes) every few days. Why? Because the battery engages when it gets cold in winter to prevent damage, so it is losing charge to that protective function and loses charge faster in the cold in general, plus we're using heating features - did I mention the Midwest? The safety features, semi-autonomous driving features, and amazing heads-up display are hard to find all in one vehicle after 2025 (the model I am reviewing is a 2024), making driving the Ioniq 5 a pleasure. Personally, I don't think the seats are comfortable and I do not recommend matte paint since you must hand wash only. But if you want a vehicle for travel and if charging a couple of times a week for half an hour at a time in the winter is a showstopper for you, then this isn't your ride.

Good but not Great

The ioniq 5 is a unique vehicle with lots of features, but lots of small quirks that can and should be worked out. ICCU failures, trunk latches that rattle, shift levers and dashes that are located where your knees are supposed to go, seat belts that bounce against the pillar plastics, and so on. We like, but don't love ours.

2024 Ionic 5 - With I had the 2005

All and all a great car however poor visibility and NO REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER!!! Also even though it is bigger then the Kona I really don't have any more cargo room then the Kona due to the sloped rear end. I wish it didn't slope that much. It really limits what I can put in the car. Also the 2nd row seats do not go flat when put down. And....the 2nd row head rests are permanent. So I can't take them off to either create more space and/or gain better visibility. These may sound like little things....but for me....if I knew all this prior to leasing the car—I would not have leased it.

Enjoyable riding experience

The only problem I have, I would consider fairly mild. It seems that my air-conditioning heating unit seems to have a mind of its At times it will decide what temperature to change while I’m in the car. It’s an easy fix for me to just change the dial. However, it seems that if I happen to push a button to change a musical station or sometimes do nothing the temperature register in the car will change. I have brought this car in several times and each time they’ve tried to fix it. It’s only a temporary change one time they even brought somebody from the factory in.

Ioniq 5 - 2 years user reviews

Overall this is a car for girl, family and causal drive, but not for any performance drive. But your passager might have some comments at the back seat, because this is too bumpy for them to sitting at the back. Some sensors sometimes are out of control, for example: even there is no one in front of my car, the sensor still beeping.
