Excellent EV

The Ioniq 5 is quick in city traffic, handles well, and is fun to drive. A full charge now shows 360 miles of range. Roomy enough for 5 people with good storage in back.

Optimal performance: acceleration/braking, ride and handling

Difficult to find cons; however, the main problem areas are 1) the constant rattle from where the navigation screen meets the dash, and 2) the overall customer service for such an expensive vehicle (mediocre and often lack of basic customer service doesn’t match the higher price point).

Tempting but not enough

This car is by no means a bad vehicle. It drives well, and it feels very comfortable. The design stands out on the road, with great color options and a roomy interior. I love that you can also recline and move the back seats. I used those features so often that it doesn't get enough credit. However, it also has a lot of questionable decisions. First of all, the software. It is a much better and improved version from 2024 and below, it has a lot of bugs and limits. Not being able to remember which drive mode you set to whenever you start a vehicle is weird. The forward collision warning is a bit more aggressive than my other vehicles, TESLA. It will be beeping crazy like I hit or something, but in reality, I still have like 40ft plus gap than how I usually park my cars. It is good to overestimate but I need to tune a bit more. Another thing with the sensor warning is that it gets delayed. I will be backing out and turning, and it beeps after I have already driven past the objects. The same goes for lane collision warnings. That warning is so bad and so many incidents with delayed or missed warnings, I don't know if I can fit in these reviews. Second, why can't we have an auto walk-away lock? It has an auto-unlock, but I have to use third-party accessories in order to do a walk-away auto lock. It is very bare bones. Only auto locks if you don't engage with the car. As soon as you engage the doors, you have to lock them manually. Lastly, the price, when I bought it, still had a rebate program. If it gets any more expensive than $42K for SEL trim, I think you should consider getting different brands since they offer you better for the same price.

Buy Ionic 5 for mileage and safety freatures

Excellent milage and safety features.. Touch screen and voice recognition has a lot of quirks and not user friendly. Can be be extremely frustrating.

Best EV I've driven

I'm 14 months into my 24-month lease on my 2026 Ioniq 5 Limited. It is by far the best EV I've driven, and among the best cars I've driven in general. It is solid, confident, well-built, and has plenty of range for my needs. Its various quirks and differences from other popular vehicles add to its charm - like with any car, there are a couple of things I'd have done differently, but they don't detract from the overall experience. I enjoy driving it and honestly wish I had more reasons to drive places. I also live in an area with one of the lowest electric rates in the nation, which right now is quite relevant given the cost of gas, and it makes me happy to be a part of the EV revolution.

Great to drive. ICCU unreliability is a problem, however.

I love driving the car. But I was 100 miles from home when the ICCU failed, and the car went into "limp home" mode. I don't think it would have made it limping to the nearest Hyundai dealer, which was 7 miles away at the time. ICCU failures are a known problem, and Hyundai should correct the problem and issue a recall.

Love the Ioniq 5, but would love some side cameras

We kicked our Tesla to the curb and are super happy with the Ioniq but I really miss those side cameras for parking. Something about the backup camera and the Ioniq that gets me crooked in a parking place every time.

charging unit fail with less than 3000 miles on my car

Also - I am not being fully reimbursed for the cost of not have a car for over a week. A new car, with less than 3000 miles should not break down.

Great vehicle, minor complaints

Driver door should lock automatically when leaving, but biggest complaint is having to always adjust braking every time it is put into drive.

Our good choice

First off we’re glad we purchased an electric vehicle. Everything seems to be working fine and very dependable. We have used both a 220 and a 110 charging and if you’re no rush, 110 is excellent.

Ioniq 5 vs Tesla

Excellent vehicle. Overall, very comparable to my previous Tesla. Better ride than my Tesla. The range is less than my Tesla's, and charging outside the home is a little more complicated. The instrument panel is more cumbersome, but offers more options. Less road noise than the Tesla, but some rattles.
